Sadly the low level software is still many years behind current hardware in some aspects. (I'm giving a shifty glance at you, consoles.)

That's why we have **** like 60gb games, but the devs and publishers don't care because they think it just makes the game harder to pirate.

Look up the experimental game kkrieger. Why don't we have that **** today now that we have the hardware that can handle it??

Unfortunately I've just been reading something that puts Hitman's future as a DX12 title under a cloud of doubt which is disappointing. As you said the consoles are only low to mid level PC's now so we'll be held back by that for at least a few years.
However, At least Microsoft are pushing DX12 due to it being there baby for X-box and Win 10 so hopefully that will help with the cpu bottlenecks we are seeing more of lately.

Quantum Break is 100% DX12 and judging by all the Hollywood names they've got on board as characters in the game they've clearly spent big bucks on the title and intend it to be the game that's showcasing DX12.

got my tin foil thinking cap on and i am gonna say that Fermi can do what Maxwell Cannot(A-sync compute) if they made a driver for the 400/500 series. Could this be why there is no driver for DX12 for Kepler and Fermi. So Maxwell stays at the top...

Nonetheless, All very interesting with regards to DX12 and Vulkan

Description

There's been many theories as to why the adoption of DX12 is taking as long as it is with titles such as Rise of the Tomb Raider actually having the newer rendered replaced with a DX11 renderer for it's PC release after teaming up with Nvidia.
Currently AMD's GCN architecture is the only option with full hardware support while Nvidia relies on there software to support it giving AMD a distinct advantage at this time.
While rumours circulate that that is why Nvidia got involved with Rise of the Tomb Raiders development it's also important to remember that DX12 is Win10 only and Win 10's current adoption level may in fact have been the deciding factor in the decision to downgrade it allowing it's use on PC's running Win 7, 8 & 8.1 from release, This is also supported by new information that suggests that a DX12 option may be coming in a future update.

However no such concern has been shown for the Microsoft supported Quantum break title due to release in April on X-box and PC through the Windows store. Details and the games PC requirements can be found here:

The Hitman title is due to start it's episodic release in March.
