Hi! My name's Cheese. I've been making games in some form or another for over 30 years. I'm a Linux-based devs, and had ported games and run Linux-focused communities in the past. I also like to write about games and interview developers from time to time.

They were more comments regarding format and content for the Freedom Friday thing.

I don't personally have anything to ask (I normally reserve my interviews for cross-platform stuff), but I do hope that others will use this opportunity to engage directly with a developer :)

Congratulations on winning the contest!

Freedom Friday is a neat idea, although I'd love to see a smaller selection of games and deeper content (some detail on the games' histories, perhaps some thoughts form developers, and players).

Also wouldn't hurt to clarify whether this is geared towards covering games which are "free as in Freedom" (which the title seems to imply, and which it appears that Festival and Sloth Patrol may not be), or stuff which doesn't cost money.

This might not be the best place to touch base with prospective players (this group is for developers, etc. of the open source Desura client rather than a group of gamers specifically).

Best of luck with your project.

Actually, this was a false alarm. It loads the maps, but none of the other game content. We're looking into what we need to do to get it running :)

Thanks to some testing from Swordfischer, we've got confirmation that G.S.T. runs under Linux with the new native Half-Life 1 beta.

Actually, there have been both iOS and Android ports that have had work done on them.

A version of Neverputt based on the 1.4.x source tree has been available on the iTunes store for several years ( Itunes.apple.com ). Neverball has some performance issues, which our recent migration to OpenGL ES will hopefully help with).

There's an APK for testing on Android devices, which can be downloaded from our forum ( Forum.nevercorner.net ). I'm not working on that myself, but I am under the impression that it is getting some development attention at the moment from one or two of our other contributors :)

Apologies for the late response. This can be done, but I might leave adding it to the guide to somebody who does it regularly.

Personally, I've gotten by with symlinking individual games when I've needed to check something, but that's not a particularly pretty solution ^_^

We're still hoping to attract Windows contributors who can help get Desurium behaving under Windows.

If anybody is interested in attempting to compile and giving us feedback (or contributing fixes), that would be hugely helpful! :)

If you're keen, you can follow the instructions in the "Beginners' Guide" (the link in the news post has been fixed) and have a go at the development version of Desurium right now :)

Not so much. There have been a couple of games that I've bought on Desura that I've otherwise had in Humble Bundles. It's another chance to support the people who make the stuff I like :)

It's worthwhile avoiding making posts that are emotionally charged - with a bit of time things might seem very different and having potentially conflicting information floating around might worry people outside and within your community.

It's tough being an indie dev. Good to hear things are getting back on track. <3

For anybody who's excited by these sorts of things, I've just published a two part interview with two of the excellent fellows from Frozenbyte which covers developing Trine 2, their experiences with their first in-house Linux port, and what the future may hold.

We don't have seagulls in Australia - they're actually silver gulls. What you're seeing over there are real seagulls :)
