The Hive War

This is the main game feature of Hive wars. In this game mode players will have to decide on what strategy to use to overrun the enemy. Each team has a Hive which serves as the base of operations without the hive there can be no colony. Inside the Hive lives the very fragile Queen who must be protected at all costs. The hive needs to be kept alive through a source of energy that is produced by radioactive flowers found around the wasteland. These flowers are a limited resource and as a result become areas of high conflict. Each team must try to re-energize (level up) their hive to maximum capacity. When the hive reaches level 1 the upgrade center will be unlocked.

Hive mechanic

The Hive is the most important thing to the colony. If the Hive takes too much damage from the opposing team, the colony will lose these abilities in reverse sequential order. If the hive is destroyed the colony is lost. Flowers when captured regenerate the hive if it is damaged. Flowers also generate experience points for the colony, these will unlock up to a total of three passive abilities in succession.

With each unlock the colony will become stronger, there are a total of three unlocks.

Level 1 = unlock hive upgrade center (players can enter hive)

Level 2 = special attacks

Level 3 = Super charger pollen upgrades all attributes

Hive level 1: The upgrade center gives access to insect upgrades; players must then choose
which upgrade to suite there style. The first team to gain access to this feature will have the advantage. The Hive can also level down if it takes to much damage from attackers, when this happens the team will lose the ability to use the hive upgrade center.

Flower mechanics

These plants are based on the South African Protea flower. In Hive Wars these resilient plants have survived the fallout and have adapted to the new wasteland, mutated as a result of the radiation they produce the energy required to power up the Hive.

There is a capture radius around the flower; this area must be held by one or more team
mates in order to capture the flower. The flower can be recaptured at any time. Flowers
have an energy limit. Depending on which team holds flower determines which Hive gets the energy. For example team 1 might hold the flower for 40 points while team 2 holds the flower for 60 points. Flowers life spawn is limited to just 100 points, when the flower runs out of points it will die. This will trigger another flower event somewhere else in the level. The new random flower opens on the stage and the cycle begins again.
