Post news Report RSS Pig Out! Version 1.22 released and other announcements

Just when you thought Pig Out! had reached perfection, the version 1.22 update improves the experience even further still. Additionally, we disclose a few details of where we're going from here.

Well, despite saying that the last update would probably be the last, we've managed to find a number of ways of making Pig Out! even better than before, namely:

-Reformatted introductory text (centered and split over more lines) - we cannot guarantee that this will work as intended if the game is run in a terminal other than the default Windows Command Prompt
-Reduced delay between rolling and seeing result
-Fully commented source code to make it easier to learn from
-Limited games to 500 points
-Pseudo-random number generator re-initialised before each roll - should make rolls more random
-Added gap between invalid response after a roll and re-request
-Reduced default height of window to allow for taskbar
-Added 'Cackling with delight/joy' to 'happy' pass phrases
-Tweaked AI
-Entering too large a number no longer triggers 'Please enter a whole number' error
-Players who win by everyone else giving up no longer have their score increased to the target score
-Scoreboard now states if a player won due to everyone else finishing/giving up
-Negative and decimal numbers now recognised as input and dealt with properly
-Delay added between final scores and longest streak
-Very slightly increased probability of Piggy Back
-Slight optimisation
-Fixed typographical error in 'Off the Table' text

If you can think of anything you would like to see changed or added, please do not hesitate to ask.

We also have another couple of announcements to make:

-Firstly, now that Pig Out! is pretty mature as a game, we will begin working to create distributions that work on the Mac and Linux operating systems. Whilst we can make no promises, we have no reason to believe that we cannot deliver these within the near future, although we would like to take this opportunity to say that we cannot guarantee that these distributions will initially, or ever (though we will certainly do our utmost to ensure that this is not the case), contain all the features available in the Windows Version, though no core functionality will be lost.

-Secondly, we are pleased to announce that a Graphical Edition of Pig Out! is in the works and making steady progress, though we cannot currently give a time frame for its release. This edition will be a separate distribution to the current Pig Out!, which we will continue to support, due to it having a significantly different codebase. We hope that the additional features of the new engine will make all the thrills of Pig Out! even more enjoyable than before. We also have plans for another, larger project, once the Graphical Edition is released, but you'll just have to wait for that.
