I bought the alpha version of Project Zomboid, and every time I try to install it, it fails, either getting stuck while "Gathering Information" or when getting the mcf file. This is what the console output looks like:

23:51 Failed to download MCF Header from Us1.dl.desura.com:62003: Did not get any data from mcf server. [18.0]
23:51 Failed to download MCF Header from Eu21.dl.desura.com:62003: Did not get any data from mcf server. [18.0]
23:51 Failed to download MCF Header from Eu15.dl.desura.com:62001: Did not get any data from mcf server. [18.0]
23:51 Failed to download MCF Header from Eu22.dl.desura.com:62003: Did not get any data from mcf server. [18.0]
23:51 Failed to download MCF Header from Us19.dl.desura.com:62001: Did not get any data from mcf server. [18.0]
23:51 Failed to download MCF Header from Eu17.dl.desura.com:62001: Did not get any data from mcf server. [18.0]
23:51 Error in MCF validate: Did not get any data from mcf server. [18.0]
23:51 There was an error during the gathering information process and it has been stopped.: Did not get any data from mcf server. [18.0]

The demo installed and ran just fine. I would like to get this issue resolved, as I am rather disappointed that I paid for this game, and I can't get it to install.

Hey alien,

What version of the client are you running? (main menu -> about)
Do you have any fire walls in place? Looks like the connection to the server is getting blocked.

The connection is not getting blocked. There are no firewalls in place. I am running the latest version of the Desura client (Build 120.6), I did a force update before posting. Unfortunately, I'm on my campus network at college (Penn State University), and I can only use a little bit under 6GB more this month, so I'd like to avoid doing too many updates of Desura. On a side note -- Does Desura support proxies? I'd like to use a proxy that allows me to get around the 10GB/month cap on my university network, and I'd very much appreciate it if Desura worked with it (considering it uses tons of bandwidth).

Well its most likley your campus network blocking the connections to download content. Desura has limited proxy support on windows and almost none on linux.

I'd say that makes sense, but I managed to install almost 2 dozen other games just fine on the exact same network.

Also, our campus network doesn't block or monitor anything on any protocols (according to them). They just monitor the total amount of data uploaded and downloaded. They don't block or throttle any protocols. I mean even BitTorrent works, but it's an easy way to go over your bandwidth cap.

The issue appears to be fixed. That's odd, it was broken yesterday. I think it might have been on your end, as my internet was working just fine at the time. Regardless, it installed just fine. However, once I actually do get into the game, it asks for my key, and after putting it in, the game crashes. Here's a screenshot of the error message I get: Dylanmtaylor.com
Is there any way I can fix this? The demo worked fine, so I'd expect the actual game to work as well.

I get exactly the same error as above when trying to play it (installation was fine).

Text of the error is:

Title: Error: null
zombie.h.j.a(Unknown Source)
zombie.h.f.b(Unknown Source)
zombie.l.b(Unknown Source)
zombie.FrameLoader.main(Unknown Source)

[Linux Mint 11 (x64) - Core i7/920, ASUS Sabertooth X58 MB, Gigabyte GTX 570 & 12 GB Ram.]

Trying the 32 bit version didn't work either, got the following log file:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /home/zarius/Games/desura/common/games/project-zomboid/liblwjgl.so: /home/zarius/Games/desura/common/games/project-zomboid/liblwjgl.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 (Possible cause: architecture word width mismatch) at java.lang.ClassLoader$NativeLibrary.load(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary0(ClassLoader.java:1807) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(ClassLoader.java:1716) at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Runtime.java:823) at java.lang.System.loadLibrary(System.java:1028) at org.lwjgl.Sys$1.run(Sys.java:73) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at org.lwjgl.Sys.doLoadLibrary(Sys.java:66) at org.lwjgl.Sys.loadLibrary(Sys.java:82) at org.lwjgl.Sys.(Sys.java:99) at org.lwjgl.opengl.Display.(Display.java:130) at zombie.FrameLoader.main(Unknown Source)

You will have to contact the project zomboid developers with issue relating to the game. Best place to start is here: Theindiestone.com

Have just sent them an email:

"Howdy,

Just purchased your game on Desura after trying out the demo (loved it :D) however the game doesn't start. Seems this is a common issue with forum reports on theindiestone (here) and Desura (here and here).

Can you please advise if this is being looked into or any ETA for a fix? I'm eager to start my Project Zomboid adventures :D

Regards,
Zarius."

Hiya we're looking into this issue thanks and apologies for the inconvenience.

Just out of curiosity, and it may not make any difference at all, but have you tried uninstalling your Java and reinstalling and making sure your running the latest version for your distribution.

OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.10.2) (6b22-1.10.2-0ubuntu1~11.04.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b11, mixed mode)

That is the version I am running and it works fine for me.

I can't run OpenJava as it has some issues with Minecraft servers, I'm running Sun Java 6 instead.

lemmy101 - Whatever you guys did in the demo works perfectly. That should help find the issue with the full version. Also - another complaint: Why do I have to enter my Desura CD key to play the game? When Desura activates the game on my account, I don't want to have to find my CD key page and copy and paste my CD key into the game. It's a pain. Please remove the CD key check from the Desura version.

Oct 11 2011 Anchor

You mean it isn't saving the CD Key or it makes you put it in the first time it runs? The Desura system should show you the CD-Key in a window the very first time you play at least that is how it has worked for me for other CD Key games. If it is not saving the CD Key then the developers would need to address that.
