I doubt someone will see this, but this effect is probably done using the "rgbGen wave sin" function. From my current knowledge, the effect can be "removed" by doubling the mesh, applying specific renders to each and scaling one or the other during specific frame sequences. Costly if you ask me -- mostly because of the obsolete model format and renderer. Each of these lasts are whole separate subjects though.
