Xenonauts is a PC strategy game due for release in 2012. It is a spiritual successor to the classic X-Com strategy games, putting the player in control of an organisation defending the world from an alien invasion. It is a grand strategy game that involves building and managing bases across the entire planet, controlling jet fighters and ground troops in battle against the alien forces, then researching captured extraterrestrial technology to unlock their secrets!

As part of our Kickstarter project, we've released a playable version of the game for free to the internet. We are aware that our game is a relatively premium product and quite a few people are interested in it, but up until now they've had no way of testing the game to see if they like it before putting their money down. Well, now you can!

The demo is the latest development build of the game. It is still an alpha and has a fair bit of work left to do on it, but it is certainly playable and should give you a good idea of whether you like the game or not. It contains a Quick Battle mode that allows the player to play a relatively tough mission, and a Full mode that contains about the first 1/4 of the game, allowing the player to research laser weapons and the first manufacturable armour. Obviously the final game will have lots more content - this is just a taster!

You can find the build on the Kickstarter page here: Kickstarter.com

Give it a play. If you enjoy it, consider pledging to back the game on Kickstarter or buying it here on Desura!

People, please instead of buying the game pledge to the kickstarter to get the game when it is over. Or at least do everything you can to promote kickstarter of this game.

I just bought a copy yesterday.....Started playing X-Com at age14, so this game caught my eye right away.....anyways, While I know the game is not at all finished, I couldnt seem to find out from reading the kickstarter page or comments here, just how far you can actually get in the game right now. I dont want to spend time waiting for the game to progress if it isnt going to....So any help would be appreciated.....The game is great so far cant wait for it to be finished.

Nah, you can't play till middle/checked game files, there are still lots of stuff we haven't seen :p), you can play until to spot when alien invasion starts escalating.

Demo/alpha ends automatically in game over screen when alien invasion ticker has passed certain phase.

Not really sure tbh. But stats and such will be easily moddable so you can easily make your soldiers horribly overpowered if you like. :P

I'm not an old X-com fan.
But this game caught my interest a while back and I've been hooked since then. I just love the setting and feeling I get when playing.
The serious and harsh tone, the implications of a coming invasion.
Especially the music which helps to set the mood extremely well.

The new X-com doesn't seem to have any of that, the design just looks bland and your soldiers are being portrayed as super heroes.
