Videos and images. Features and the future. What fun we've had this last month!

Welcome my esteemed guests! It's been an excellent month for Waves with lots of progress on the game. You might recall the last videogram we released back in the dark days of 2 weeks ago. My what a crazy carefree time that was. Well we have a new videogram for you! You maybe wondering "Well Mr Faceless Marketting Executive, how much could the game have changed in just 2 weeks?" and I would have to reply with "Quite a bit actually!"

You are best off looking for yourselves.

The boffins in the lab have been hard at work on improving the visuals as you can see. For example the square grid has been replaced with Hexagons! Hexagons are at least 50% more awesome than squares due to the two extra sides. This is clearly progress hitherto undreamed of by man!

Aside from all these new graphical wonderments you may have noticed in the video the words "Level Up" appearing. Well this is still an early feature but I've got a quote here about it:

Rob wrote:I wanted a way to measure the players long-term performance in a session so I could manage things like which enemies can spawn and how. Using an experience system seemed to be the best solution and gave me an excuse to reward the player as well. This means that the pickups now reward experience and each level your score multiplier will increase. I've also got plans to tie more rewards like extra lives, shields and increased slowmo time using the same system.

Fascinating stuff I'm sure you agree.

So that's what happened this month. There were lots of small changes as well fixing bugs and tweaking numbers - that sort of thing.

The Future!

There has been talk of giving the player shields as you might have noticed in the previous quote. Details are currently scarce but from what I've heard the plan is to give the player a shield that will protect them from a single hit. The catch though is that in order to use the shield you have to charge it up by not shooting. Once it's fully charged you can resume your shooty antics safe in the knowledge that you can be a bit more rubbish at the game.

There are also at least 3 more enemy designs planned that I've heard of: The Sniper, the Scout and the Virus. I've also heard a rumour that the Cube enemies are going to be getting quite a bit more dangerous.

I think that's it for now. I hope you've enjoyed yourselves I know I have.

Oh one last thing before I go. I found this old Videogram in the archives of the very first version of the game. Long before it had even been given a name. It's quite startling to see just how far it's come since those early days.

Toodles!

Love the progress of this game. I have had it watched for quite some
time now. The background looks nice, as with everything else. But I hope
for some kind of option to control the ripple effect, and the grid
background. The graphics are well done, I just like to fiddle around with
the settings, sometimes I'll feel like ripples, sometimes I wont.

But the game is looking very good, I hope to see a quick release (don't
want to wait a year to play this instant gem).

Multiplayer.. go

What I really like about this one is the 'hostile' and 'passive' colours being so clearly defined. Looks fantastic. Hexagons ftw

I would say that hexagons are even 200% more awesome than squares!
