The game was meant to be played with the Xbox Controller but if you have only keyboard or just one controller here is the full control scheme. You can check it also ingame in Options -> Controls. By the time being this cannot be changed.

Well, I actually am a professional freelance illustrator, so my art understanding comes from that (you can check my portfolio here: Shurita.daportfolio.com) and transitioning to pixel art was extremely easy with that strong foundation in art.
Pixel-art is the same as regular art, it just leaves more room to interpretation, very much like a sketch sometimes feels more interesting than a full blown piece. If you'd like to better understand pixel-art I highly recommend studying (or at least getting in touch) with drawing basics.
