NOTE: The following is subject to change due to overhaul in the game design and potential technology switch. Before being imprisoned for eternity, Mephistopheles, the Lord of Darkness, put his sinister knowledge into several tomes which were scattered across the land. Many wicked souls were corrupted by the Devil and spent their lives searching for the wretched Tomes of Mephistopheles, to gain the knowledge of their unholy power. It has been foretold that the beholder of the Tomes will possess the greatest power known to mankind and will rule the world, but will corrupt it and leave it in ruins. The secret society known as the Deputies of Uriel dispatched its most skillful members to find the Tomes and destroy them at any cost. Will you fulfill your duty or succumb to the corruption of the Dark Lord ? Tomes of Mephistopheles is a first-person action-RPG dungeon crawler..

It's still early days, but Tomes of Mephistopheles is off to a good start. From the start, the game draws you in with its atmospheric soundtrack. In-game, everything is nicely done: From the silky smooth 60 fps graphics, to the dynamically generated dungeons with fully destructible environments and object interactivity, there is a lot to like here. If you are a fan of first-person action-RPG's, check this one out. With a simplified combat system it's easy to learn, and a blast to play. Recommended. 9/10

Dungeoncrawler in good looking 1st-Person-3D, intense fights, atmospheric sound and all that natively on linux.... a dream comming true!
Alpha is a little short on content atm, but that is totally understandable. Almost bug free, runs perfectly ootb (ubuntu 11.10) and the atmosphere ist AWESOME!
Looking forward to a real gem!

Development stopped at a early-stage. There is pretty much nothing to do ingame apart from killing some skeletons. No objectives and no direction at all.

Come on guys, this is an ALPHA.
I know that for some damn reason it is popular to call an almost finished game an alpha to get an excuse for bugs, but this is a real alpha, and should be treated as such.
And for an alpha, it has already much to offer. The engine is stable, you can already play the game, just more content has yet to be added. And for this, the developers need some more money. So get over it, and buy it. These guys made steel storm, so I am pretty sure this game will be great, once it's finished.
About the "high" price: Just look at other (popular) games. Minecraft now costs 20€/$, and wasn't cheap at alpha stage either. And to be honest, I wouldn't consider it stable yet. Yes, they added content, but the engine is really really ****** up. Did you ever run a Minecraft-Server? 4 People playing can easily take out a 16-core, 2GB-Ram server with SSD drives. Do you call this stable?
This guys are just developing the other way round: The engine and stability comes first, then the content. And honestly? I prefer it this way.
I will write a new review once the game gets stable, but for now it's 10/10. Just because of the potential that this game has, and to oppose those who just want to troll, giving low ratings.

I would like to say that in the games current state, I probably would rate it a bit lower then 8. I chose instead to give it an 8 based on coming features and what is possible in the future! I can even imagine giving it a 9. First the graphics are so very pretty for a dungeon theme. And when I am playing the quite basic alpha build, there are SO many ideas going through my head. Of things that would be cool, spells, weapons. I am literally dying of anticipation for a much later polished build. If you appreciate high quality indie games, I suggest grabbing this game soon to help the great devs out.
On a closing note, I would for sure give this game a 10 if it had some sort of Leveling / Skill RPG-lite type system. I don't mean a full fledged RPG but just some basic things. Maybe just unlock cooler weapons with achievment points.. Anywho, its a must have for indie lovers. 8/10 now, probably 9/10 with all the features in,
