'A tractor'.. (or 'The Universal', either way)... is an online game for PC. Play games, explore the galaxy, or make your own world with your own game design. Various game types are available - including complex social economies - and you can play it all for free. If you're the creative type you'll find extensive in-game tools and a powerful scripting engine to let you create new game ideas. Or you can just mess around and blow each other into ostriches. It's all cool, whatever.

The Universal enters a new phase in its historical quest back to space, with a complex economic civilization starting to form.

Over the past few months our friendly little playerbase has been living out the first 60,000 years or so of human pre-history, which mostly involved sitting around eating a load of nuts & berries, dying occasionally and then an awful lot of waiting around. There's been a few notable events, like the generation of some thoroughly pointless mythology about an ark and a tower, the extermination of all life by a minor asteroid impact and a series of discoveries & inventions that led to the creation of kilns, bronze, boats and swords - with the latter getting messy pretty quickly once people worked out how to use 'em. Go go bloodsplats!

Over the past few weeks the small population of the world has begun settling down in Chapter 3, building a few farms and doing a bit of baking.

This weekend we're entering a new phase, as we begin to learn more of the advantages of a settled civilisation, with our commulative wisdom leading us to the beginnings of a complex economy.
If you're in to those sort of occasional games where you get to corner the market for gold, profit from a wheat shortage or just help out another player by cutting a good deal on some construction work, now might not be a bad time to pop in and have a play.

Alongside the sedate pace of the economy world, over the next few weeks there'll be various events & minigames including the traditional races and shamanic crow tournaments - check out the website regularly for details.

The game continues to get frequently updated as we move through the ages, with lots more economy and gameplay stuff to come, heading for a return to space sometime in 2013.

Hope to see you around :]
