The Battle of the Somme symbolized the horrors of warfare for the duration of world war one. Follow orders, fight for your country & survive the horrendous trench life. Equipped with an arsenal of weaponry, make haste and conquer your nation's foes, watch over your brothers and god speed. As a soldier in The Somme team work dependency is key, listen out for the battle cry of orders. What kind of soldier are you? From the Medic being able to haul wounded allies to cover and bandage them up, to the Officer, being the eyes of the field, marking targets to create utter devastation to your enemies forces with an artillery barrage.

The Somme - WWI FPS

Greetings Trench Rats,

It is sad news today, news that will greatly upset a lot of the followers of The Somme. Unfortunately we've collectively agreed as a team to let The Somme peacefully pass away. We acknowledge this might come as a huge shock due to the recent post regarding a firm revival of The Somme, however due to unforeseen circumstances financially, The Somme could no longer sustain itself. This comes with the territory of being a real indie game, indie games are plagued with the problem of funding and believe us when we say we did our complete best in looking for a cure. Maybe one day the project might arise if the funding is there, but from strong observation the probability of that happening is tremendously low.

We hope that you understand the severity of the issues that plague such a ambitious project - we want to thank you as a community for being absolutely amazing, loving and very interested in the product.

Thank you, and good night.

- The Somme

Sad news indeed. I just hope that you guys decide to do something else that is equally as cool, but maybe not as ambitious. Cheers mates!

Well, that sucks...

I wish you good luck in anything else that you guys decide to make, and I'll hope that something happens that will allow you guys to come back to The Somme. :)

You could at least have left the old updates, I was gonna see them again, but everything was deleted. :(

This is really sad news, this had great potential to be a really great game. I hope one day that this will arise again and be worked on.

any possibility to shove the project to another studio/group who would love to work further on this I myself would greatly love to help with anything I am still in the beginning face of 3D modelling but it is getting there. this is just very sad to see I followed this game for alteast 2,5 years and to see it die all of a sudden is just very sad, tho I do understand the decision of the devs and completly approve there decision I just think that ending it this soon in the progress is just not really what I expected. I hope to see this being developed by a different studio if that possiblity will ever come to rise.

To the devs:

We all (your fans) wish you the best with any further projects you all are working on!

Maybe you should consider Kickstarter.

Try kickstarter before you give up.

Well ****, you guys had some awesome assets and the game really was starting to shape up. Why you can't try kickstarter/indiegogo to try and get funding is beyond me or passing on what you had for someone else to work on.

Dear God of ****! I was afraid something like this would happen!

Another potentially wonderful WWI project gone to waste...

The WW1 curse is apparently still very much in effect. Hmm, i wonder how red baron made it through? although that was a flying game. Toy Soldiers doesn't count, lol.
