The Battle of the Somme symbolised the horrors of warfare in world war one. Follow orders, fight for your country, survive in rain soaked trenches and wait for the call; the call to chargeover no man's land to fight for freedom and liberation. Equipped with your arsenal of weaponry, make haste and overtake your enemies; watch over your brothers and god speed. As a soldier in The Somme you are challenged to overtake your enemy's forces. Team work dependency is key without it you will fall to feet of your foes. Listen out for orders from your commanding officer. Which role are you? You decide; from the Medic class and being able to haul wounded allies onto your shoulders to bandage them up in your trench to being an Officer, taking bird's eye view control to spot targets and mark them on your map to create devastation to your enemies forces with Artillery barrage.

Afternoon Trench Rats, we wanted to talk with you today about something that TopHat has always been focused on integrating and having coalition with charities, specifically the British Red Cross foundation for The Somme.
We wanted to be unique in the Indie stream as I'm sure a lot of our competition does too; at the same time we had incredible passion to give back to the world and it's people for helping TopHat and The Somme's development. We had yet to see a game have it's internal focus and aim to justify it's end progress to helping a charity.
The Somme originally was planned to have an integrated donating system on it's Menu for charities. After discussing the idea with various charities we were turned away due to copyright issues. But that didn't stop us, we were determined to give back to charities. That's when we heard about Kickstarter coming to the United Kingdom on the 31st. This sparked incredible desires, and we came up with the idea that we would donate 5% of The Somme's TOTAL earnings to the British Red Cross foundation.
So we wanted to state on record, if you do want to donate to The Somme's kickstarter, we want to personally thank you for working with TopHat in giving back to the people who need it most. For those who are curious as to when The Somme's kickstarter event will start, it shouldn't be too long after the 31st of the current month.
To clear up any confusion. The funded Kickstarter money will help in the completion of The Somme. Once The Somme is released, all collected Sales will have 5% deducted and donated to British Red Cross Foundation.
If you want to donate directly to the British Red Cross Foundation, click HERE.
Thank you.

P.S We now have a Steam Community group where you can chat with developers and fans of The Somme. Come chat!

Wonderful idea!

Way to ***** yourselves out.
I'm supposed to pay you, so you can give my money to a charity in your own name?
Doesn't look good for the quality of the actual game, either.
Guess I'll just skip you and take the short route, giving 100% of the money to Red Cross.
If this is how you feel then fine. The fact is we are not taking your money and giving it to a charity in 'our' name. Rather you would be giving exactly the same amount in return for our product. The decision of our studio to support a worthy cause dedicated to helping those in crisis (and coincidently were an intrinsic part of the support effort during the Great War itself) will not affect the price point we bring The Somme to our fans. The donation will be made post release by the studio itself whereas the money would normally be in the pockets of our developers and future studio plans. As you said, if you would like to donate directly to the Red Cross, please do (see link above).
Excuse me? So, let me get this straight, you mean that by giving a charitably donation to a foundation that helped an incredible amount in World War One is whoring out, in what way is that 'whoring' out, I would indeed love to know; because we are doing this out of thanks and expect nothing in return for the donation.
Go right ahead, donate directly to the Red Cross. It helps, a lot.
Your attitude stinks.
***** out? i thought it was pretty nice that they are doing this, as for the quality of the game, its very good, just wait for game-play videos.
