Esperware Interactive announces new horror video game IP
Birmingham, AL - July 28, 2014 Esperware Interactive has announced it's brand new horror IP The Beyond - a psychological horror journey into the town of Walker's Chapel. The first in this brand new series heads to the PC Windows® platform.
Scheduled for release in 2016, The Beyond will bring a side-scrolling horror experience with pre-rendered graphics, focused on atmosphere and a story based upon real-life locations. Players will find themselves facing the evil, all while constantly being hunted. Nowhere is safe. The game will feature a system that will put you in a hostile environment from start to finish, with scares that can happen anywhere and are not scripted in specific locations.
The Beyond will begin with your character Melody Sommers entering the town of Walker's Chapel in search of her idea of the perfect place to die. Melody has decided to take her own life in this town where over one-hundred corpses a year are found by authorities, thought to be suicide victims. Melody finds her body in the town square and discovers she is already dead. The evil makes itself known and is coming to collect her soul, preventing her chance at redemption. Players will be able to expect brain-teasing puzzles, nightmarish creatures and hauntingly atmospheric locations. Players cannot defend themselves against the coming evil, only escape it, and remember - nowhere is safe.
The Beyond will reveal it's story primarily through documents discovered throughout the town of Walker's Chapel. Occasionally, players may interact with non-playable characters that have been so unfortunate as to find themselves crossing over to the plane Melody is confined to. Players will focus on the story and it's mystery, as well as survival and discovery of the town of Walker's Chapel.
“I am excited to finally bring my vision to life, of a game that embraces atmosphere, story and psychological horror” commented Matt Lucas, lead designer and developer for Esperware Interactive. “The Beyond will bring an equally exciting and terrifying mixture of game play and story.”
The Beyond will be available for PC Windows® in 2016. For more information, please contact Matt Lucas at Esperware Interactive via support@esperware.com

Unfortunately, this project has been placed on hold for now as we shift our focus to Anathema. There was a game that released last year on Steam that was incredibly similar to The Beyond and we decided we would take a different approach, but while we decided on a further design for The Beyond we are developing Anathema, which has luckily been greenlit on Steam.
