Development of SYNTH video game continues, with several new features and graphical enhancements to be ready in next release. I am most proud of some of the new audio features to come to SYNTH which include "sample guided" wavetable oscillators. This has been in response to some user "suggestions" that it would be nice if SYNTH did some real time generator of audio. Most of SYNTH's audio is "samples" and all the real time generation has been in the form of real time sequence remixing.
UNTIL NOW !!! :)
So what are these "sample guided wavetable oscillators"?? And how is it cool??
Well, a sample guided wavetable oscillator, is a synthetic sound generator, that generates evolving single cycle waveform signals. Traditionally, this type of sound generator uses "tables" of pre-generated waveforms, to produce it's "evolving pad" sounds. Thanks to the power of today's modern PC's, SYNTH video game is proud to present (real time wavetable generator, or sample guide). This means that the SYNTH sound generators, aren't limited to a precomputed wave-table, but create "wavetables" on the fly, based on samples, and other data sources. What this means, is:
Complete "songs" / sequences can be generated at full CD quality, uncompressed, with almost NO download overhead to the "file size". YIP, synth is still only 24 megs to download :)
* A wide arrange of new "one time only" sound effects can be generated
AND
They just plain SOUND COOL!! and they are also available in DAMSIN MUSIC MACHINE, which is soon to be released!!
STAY TUNED!!!!!!!!!!! for SYNTH 1.656!!!

Hey all,. here is my new way to "contact" and have a "forum" as well as talk about your mods and games too. Very SIMPLE, and "google docs published"

The concept of this game sounds quite interesting, but unfortunately it simply will not run on my system, as it crashes the moment I start it (I do have Windows 7 64-bit, FYI) Considering that you developed it on an Intel processor and nVidia graphics card, I have to wonder whether it works on an AMD CPU or graphics card, as I have a Phenom II X6 1100T and a RADEON HD6870. Just a heads up. Good luck with future development.
Yeah,. I need to test with ATI right now,. I've tested with AMD, that should work fine, but I don't have a good ATI card right now,. that could all change really soon, I have not forgotten ATI cards for sure. It's just some simple problem. Now that I have window7 I should get right on it even :) Thanks! Keep checking, eventually I'll have ATI finally fixed.
I have a lot of respect for those of you who can venture into this pure mathematical language medium and skillfully be so creative with it. The results are really spectacular. Well beyond my skill sets, I admit, but I find it's ( potential ) gaming applications extremely intriguing.
I'm curious to learn more as to where or from what the inspiration for this project originated. Assuming there's an interview or two on the net, I'd like to read up if a link or two wouldn't be too much trouble.
Thanks! I'm glad you are interested in the weirdness that is "math art",. math can generate some crazy stuff,. I really have learned a lot from this project, and it was worth every second,. there is still a lot I want to do to it,. I'm planning to work on it in my spare time for at least 1 more year,. but take a look at v1.404,.. it's very playable now on "decent" machines,. as for "inspiration"? the inspiration was to make a pure "math art" game, and as this was started, I soon started going after "synthetic nature art duality" as well as the "satanic side" of what typing in SIN SIN SIN over and over "brought out" in a "treebark inkblot" delusion kind of sence,.. a major part of the inspiration is some of the very weird programming that was done for the game.
Well, well, posted links right at the top...have to learn to read. ;P
yeh watched the video and very confuzzled over what your meant to do :|
If anyone is lookinbg for the new 1.303 preview, and it looks like there are some,. it's just in the "auth" process right now,. it'll be just a bit more,.
if in the mean time, you can download SYNTH 1.303 at: (It's called ELECTROPIX there,. just the file name though,.)
Software.intel.com
well,. the game is fairly confusing, but easy to play,. SYNTH is VERY reliant on graphics actually,. that's most of the procedural experiment,. but the new version of SYNTH (PREVIEW 1.303 BETA with GLSL, up within a few days) has an active "emitter" effect, where you have a solid structure emitter, that things "die" when they run into, so you can make tons of solid particles (weapon entities) to create "soft body like" barricades of FAMILIARS, that you can push around with the WIND physics, suck and blow, and draw them into shapes. So the thing is with synth, it's a bit of a "sandbox" game, because it's really almost hard to die at first, and then it squeezes you.
