Sword & Scroll is a grand strategy game originally inspired by fantasy book series such as A song of ice and fire with warfare and political schemes constituting the core mechanics. The game has also been heavily influenced by other grand strategy games in particular by paradox and also from 4X games like the civilization franchise. The game is set in a medieval fantasy world where splintered factions, noble houses, fight for power. You take on the role of one of these houses.

Progress report on Sword & Scroll development during may. Includes: Saving&Loading, Mac support, Multiplayer(!!).

Welcome to another progress report on Sword&Scroll. The last dev month has not been dedicated to implementing new game mechanics but instead the focus has been on the technical side of things which had been missing until now. The game can actually be saved&loaded now. Also I have been making tests of deploying the game on different machines and when trying out a mac, it turned out that the game worked there and thus we also now have mac support.

Now, compared to the one feature I would like to address now, these are mostly minor details. Because Sword & Scroll now also features

Multiplayer

The game can be hosted by anybody who knows how to open ports. In addition Sword & Scroll supports a nogui server mode so that dedicated servers can host the game! Additionally, late-joins are implemented. You can join the game at any given time and take over whichever AI you want. Should you be eliminated, you can rejoin by choosing a different AI and working up your way from the bottom.

The Multiplayer is still pretty rough and bug ridden, but it generally works. With these set of features working I would also like to make the next announcement.

Alpha build

Currently the game is still considered in a pre-alpha state. My current priorities lie in debugging the game and improving the UI - currently only I as the dev really understands how the game can be played as there is still much information hidden. Taking on these goals is the next development milestone and once they are reached the game will be in alpha.

So what does that mean for you, dear reader? It means that I will release a public alpha demo which will hopefully be in a playable state for not just me. With my current time planning I hope to reach this state at the end of june/beginning of july.
