For those lovely individuals that missed out on announcement earlier this week, pre-orders are live! Yes, you now have the ability to throw your hard earned money at us. Every last dollar, euro, pound, yen, Nexon points, franc, ruble, rupee, Facebook credits, krona, peso, and; if we it were the 8th century, women. Yes we are willing to take almost all the above as proper currency for pre-orders.
We also wanted to commemorate those who have already pre-ordered their copy with absolutely no information on what they were buying (for all you knew you could have just bought chicken pin-up wallpaper).
Seriously, if we saw this game and had no idea what our hard earned capital was going to purchase, there was no way you could have convinced us to buy it. So Congratulations to those three guys that pre-ordered our game! We whipped up this video showing our gratitude and appreciation.
And since we don't have a proper pre-order trailer this will also double as one also.
We really wanted to thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts for putting such blind trust in us. And considering we aren't immune to corporate greed that's a HUGE step to take.
As for all the normal people I suppose now is a better time then ever to really talk about the game. So hop on board the imagination-train and we'll enter some alternative universe where you've never heard of the game before (and for those that really have never heard of the game that just makes our jobs easier).
*WOOSH!*
Survivors of Ragnarok
Survivors of Ragnarok is a city-building-management-survival game inspired by Dwarf Fortress.
Explore
Lead your company of dwarfs into high mountain passes, deep into dangerous forests, scorching deserts, and into the dark underbelly of the earth and back.
Raiders of Ragnarok
It's adventure mode with a cooler name. Reclaim your fortress, venture into the wilderness, explore other settlements, and delve into depe dungeons in search of rare and valuable artifacts in THE BEST rogue-like-platformer-rpg yet to be made.
Unique and Quirky Creatures
Encounter Bizarre and dangerous creatures from dwarf-eating-tiger-snails, flying pigs, bishop-fishes, and Chickthulhu (100% our idea and totally not suggested by an annoying community member named Thoktaz).
Yeah we know, it's awesome.
Gotta Catch 'em All!
Unlock dozens of unique dwarfs only to die by your hands moments later.
Single Player Campaign
With all the dry humor, charm, wit, and satire you've come to expect from us bundled in an epic historically accurate retelling of the events after everyone's favorite end of the world scenario (next to the zombie-apocalypse, but trust me we have that covered). Expect to be taking part in such epic and grand historical battles such as the Battle of Basing and the Battle of Svolder.
Bellow we have provided a historically accurate depiction of the Battle of Clontarf on April 23, 1024 (your gonna have to trust us on this one guys, it's legit).
Beautiful Hand-Drawn Pixel Art
Now this might just be our personal bias, but we believe we have some pretty sweet pixel art. Each and every pixel lovingly hand-drawn and animated frame by frame.
Adopt A Pig!
Now that you guys have know what your getting yourself into, let's see what your hard earned cash can get you. For the price of a cup of coffee, a meal at McDonalds, toe socks, five dollar subway sandwich, five things from the dollar store, two gallons of milk, or about $1.25 a week for a month you can adopt a pig AND pre-order our game.
Hows that for killing two birds with one stone? You get THE BEST city-building-management-survival-chicken simulator and now you don't have to go to the market this weekend and barter 2 sacks of hay and a dozen chicken eggs in exchange for a pig.
I would say that's a win/win situation if I ever seen one.

So what's the plans for the Chicken Edition? Well we will continue support of the Chicken Edition until beta. Our plans were to have the majority of the gameplay mechanics set in alpha while we spent the beta period fixing bugs and doing content updates.
We also want to reward those who pre-ordered with the latest build to play of our game. The Chicken Edition will be an update behind the Settlers and Valkyrie Edition.
And yes for those fruits and flightless birds out there, we don't like to discriminate. Survivors of Ragnarok will be available for apples and penguins.
Finally we would like to end this epic news post with the triumphant return of Dwarven Parenting. We hope everyone's enjoyed this update and don't forget to adopt your pig today!
As always don't forget to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Desura, IndieDB, Blogger, and Steam! You can now subscribe to our Pixel Pushers Podcast on iTunes!
Cool, will I be available to see the artbook in game menu? or it will be some other way to see it?
Another question, the settler rank is for your forum? Can't wait to desura linux client to download this
Our forums, it was going to be as a .pdf but I like having an in-game creature compendium :) Sounds like a very likely idea.
I think I will actually buy Valkyrie Edition if I get one of those Space Marines in-game, a maybe a couple more Dwarf skins preferably one with a Cyan Mowhawk and Beard, a few lessons about your amazing pixel art skills and style, and Can we pre-order Valkyrie Edition?
The Space Marines armor set and guns are going to be craft-able :) however I've been planning on making a news post about our pixel art...
This is one of my anticipated indies of 2012.
Any chance we can use the dwarfs from the spy party would love to play as mario and Fullmetal don't know if i missed this piece of news but I really want to know
I need to boost my indie game budget with this, minecraft, and zomboid there are some really awesome indie games i need to buy
"Seriously, if we saw this game and had no idea what our hard earned capital was going to purchase, there was no way you could have convinced us to buy it. So Congratulations to those three guys that pre-ordered our game!"
Eh, you said "Linux version" and I said "heretakemymoney".
2 sacks of hay and a dozen chicken eggs for a Pig!?! I think you guys grossely underestimate the value of a pig. I want to know what market you're going to. It should be AT LEAST 4 bags of hay and 2 dozen chicken eggs. Or 2 live egg-laying chickens and 4 bags of hay, either way.
And this does look interesting. I haven't paid much attention to it with all the other "rouge-likes" coming out/being out/trying to get out but I'll pay more attention to this.
Wow, Great Cut guys!
Now its AFORTABLE!!.... (wrong yeah, I know..)
FTW!!!!!!!!!!! O_O
Pretty Punny ;)
Gratulation :D if I had known earlier you plan to make a valkyrie edition I had bought that one :P I will of course but later ^____^ great work!
T-T I would if I could right now.
Wait, what? 0_o
You mean the three of us will NOT get our special handcrafted chicken pin-up wallpaper? T_T
Who said you weren't getting it with your pre-order?
Goood... ;)
Now, is it sunday already? Is it sunday already? *in an insolent children on the car's backseat kind of voice*
Yay, i would have paid the £3.99 for just the video of the flying rainbow chicken! :D Hmm, not sure i can justify the valkyrie on my student budget tho :( Also who were the three, I think we (assuming i was early enough to be in their distinguished ranks) should get a plaque, or maybe a special dwarf that blindly buys things that look good based purely on faith :D Greatwork guys, can't wait for a finished version.
And he invests in pyramid schemes, thinking it will actually result in a pyramid for your new base of operations!
Is it still possible to get the valkyrie edition if I preordered the adopt-a-pig?
Yes you can still buy the Valkyrie edition and we can give you a code to give to a friend if you bought the normal edition prior. Just shoot us a message or email frenchricegames@gmail.com
Preordered.
I am getting hung up on quite possibly lack of reading skills but the word pre-order is messing me up. That means I play it at a later date, correct? Or is this really a playable Alpha aka Alphafunding in disguise, trying to go incognito for some reason... I like to do Alphafunding, not pre-orders unless there is a demo I can grind to dust, I know, I am weird - I can accept feature incomplete and huge CTD type bugs if something is up front about it and even pay for the experience, but pre-orders just make me think of console games and vendor specific perks and my order coming late and the rage ... oh god, what is this, why is their blood on my hands. Er... Yeah, hope you can clear up the pre-order vs alphafunding thing, not that other thing involving EBgames and some dark humour.
Hey CandianWolverine!
It's more along the lines of the later, we are far from release and is more of crowd-sourcing/alphafunding to support development of the game! :) We hope this clarifies your question and we'll gladly answer any more questions you have.
Cleared it up enough for me to be a part of the crowd sourcing, good luck - Indy Dev games are the future as far as I am concerned :)
Please tell me the giant chicken is in game, please!
Yeah it will!
My boy
The icon still says "Steame"
That's neat. Was thinking about getting the settler edition just yesterday and today you announce the valkyrie edition. Instant buy for me - the art style alone is it worth for me :) Keep up the good work
Thank you so much! We will.
So can we still pre-order just up until the day its officially released? or will pre-ordering stop after a while?
disregard the release date it's wrong.
Kinda ****** that you just annouced the Valkyrie Edition when i brought it on the 1st of september i would of brought it to but im not buying it again at full price
:-/ Sorry about that DrHojo123, we honestly were not expecting pre-orders to be up as early as they did and did not have a news post ready in time. However we are willing to give away two settlers edition copies to give to friends for those who have the settlers Edition and want to buy the Valkyrie Edition.
Not ****** now for what you did thank alot your a kind a great company unlike EA where i had a problem with a game and all i got was 20% of EA store which i never use
Just promise to release the Linux version at the same time. ;)
Send us an Email for more info about that.
I've been following this game for quite a while but I still don't fully understand what the final game will be like. I haven't had the time to learn how to play Dwarf Fortress, so comparing this game with DF doesn't tell me what this game will be like :P I still might end up buying this though, if only for the excellent art. (And programming, even though I haven't seen code at all. Being a programmer myself I thought it would be nice to give the programmer some credits, too ;) )
The game will be a Strategy/Survival/Simulation type game. Like an ant farm, but your ants listen. Part of it will be an RPG with your dwarfs leveling up stats and skills. Another part the Sims because you have to insure your dwarfs stay happy and healthy by feeding them, etc. The survival aspect really will shine in an update or two when we have aggressive mobs that want to eat your dwarfs like your dwarfs want to eat chickens. The game is pretty bare bones right now, but as you can see from our news post we will have systems in place for management of your dwarfs if your into that sort of thing. Crafting will also be improved on, along with the inventory in general to allow for the use of a creatures drops to craft impressive Items/Weapons/Armor.
Ahh thanks, so it is kind of like Dwarfs!? (if you have played it), but a little more 'complicated' (feeding, crafting etc), being able to build instead of just trying to get a highscore by mining, and from a side-perspective instead of top-down?
... Yes.
Hey , guys. Please make this soundtrack for download !!!
