StarFire was created with the intention to provide a tool to explore the depths of the universe and its secrets in a playful, educational, and thought-provoking manner. In order to do so, the player must design his spacecraft in such way it fits his individual needs and play style, and most importantly, withstands the dangers that linger in the dark. As such, StarFire implements models based on science, and may also cross the border between reality and the paranormal.

What can I say, I ended up completely reprogramming the material library on accident. I wanted to create a better model loading structure and ended up changing texture loading as well. Apart from being faster and more compact than the old material library (takes up 300MB ram instead of 500MB, start up time 4 seconds instead of 10, while having almost double as many textures in cache), it enables me to do multiple interesting things, such as different textures for planetary rings or asteroids. The way models and textures are loaded is now standardized which makes it quite easy to use and extent. A very lovely accident I must say!
