Valchion is a action RPG with retro graphics and simple mechanics. It features bright, GameBoy Color-styled visuals, and a (hopefully) memorable soundtrack. It should be released for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It's also being made with the Blender Game Engine, which features fast game creation and no time spent exporting to an external engine.

I've finally gotten around to making a demo of my current progress on Soldier Of.

Hey. So, I've finally gotten around to making a demo of the current progress made on Soldier Of. It's pretty crude - there's not that much to see right now, but hopefully if there are any bugs or issues, they can be resolved.

So, use the arrow keys to move, and X and C to use your primary and secondary items. Press the Enter key to open your menu to equip yourself, as well. Press the secondary key (C) to make selections in the menus. You can also use a gamepad to control the game. With a standard PS2 controller connected via USB, the Cross and Square buttons are the primary and secondary item buttons. You start off with all of the items except for the jump boots - you'll have to find those to use them.

By the way, you can also press the number keys to get a perfect windowed view - the higher the number, the larger the window. 1 is around 4x, if I recall.

Known Bugs: You can currently get trapped in falling blocks (they'll kill you later on; I just haven't implemented it yet). You can also fall into the void somewhere under the waterfall in the sewers, so be aware of that. Also, there's no death (so don't worry about health).

It takes 7-Zip to un-zip the archive file. Anyway, hopefully you'll have fun with my demo. Thanks!

Very cool. I feel like there's lots of room for genuine 'game' in this little experience. I've seen it around for a while and didn't expect it to play the way it does. I'll be very interested to see where this goes.

Great work,
Eli.

Tried and i gotta say, it's way better than i expected. I take off my hat to you my good man.

Love the classic feel, it's starts to be hard to see games like this nowadays.

Keep it up!!!

(Btw, bugs are obvious to be there, 1 that i noticed seems to be random when you get the jump boots, it freezes the game)

Crud, I didn't think any game-breaking bugs were there... I'll have to check it out. Do you remember what exactly happened when the game froze - was it simply sitting there, or were there still animations?

Also, did you do anything in particular before getting to the boots? Did you interact with certain objects?

And thanks!

No, i just went to the boots normally, and once it showed the text "you got the boots" it froze, i couldn't continue pass the text.

Well, that's no good. It sounds like an error in the scripting. I haven't had this bug happen to me, but fortunately, the next build will have bug fixes, as well as output debug information to a log file. If anything like that happens, the log file should be able to shed light on the matter, and then fixing the bug should be a relatively simple matter.

Sweet, will be waiting for the next version ^^

If there's any repeatable bug, i'll be sure to inform you too.
