Shallow Space is a 3D Real Time Strategy game inspired by Nexus: The Jupiter incident and Homeworld. Shallow Space focuses on organised mass RTS space combat in a fully 3D environment. Ships in Shallow Space are nearly always grouped into Flotillas and Wings, and orders issued to these structures cascade to the subordinate members. Rather than stressing out clicking on the units or dragging selection boxes during the heat of battle, standing orders are issued in advance leaving you to zoom around, activating abilities and arranging support and reinforcements. Should the tide turn in battle traditional control is still available.
Added some more tweaks to the playability; the Tactical Overlay now hides none-selected ships movement lines when the camera is close to the battlegrid (looks much less cluttered,) we can now slow time to issue orders without rushing and people were hounding me about the explosions so i've put some new ones in ;)
Slowing time presents some very interesting challenges that has bought me and John (the camera guy) closer together, still some bugs to iron out but it's usefulness is clear. I don't think its something that will make it across into multiplayer though, as if one player goes slow all other players must go slow as well.
Mayhaps having an overclock ability/device that will accelerate every function of the ship at the cost of disabling your ship for a minute or so afterwards. That might work as some kind of 'Time Distort'
Hmmm perhaps, you'll be able to 'overclock' the weapons anyways as you will shields and engines, with various sideeffects. You'll be able to fast forward time as well because space is vast and travelling between destinations will take time.
How about more localized time distortion? Have a cap ship module that slows time around it. Can think of some fun tactics coming out of that.
Utter nightmare to program, although I can picture some of the functions as I type.
I have some ideas about messing with the timeline but that's story stuff that I can't divulge. ;)
In fact hmmmm, yes that's a very good idea :D
