We have begun work on our next project which will be a mod for the Source Engine, called "Slender: Source". A survival co-op mod where you have to hide from the Slenderman in a variety of horrifying environments. More details inside.

Details Of The Game/Mod

You may be curious as to what 'Slender: Source' is all about, and to simply put it bluntly, it's gonna be scary. Slender: Source is based off of the legend of the Slenderman which is a mythical creature often depicted as a tall, thin figure wearing a black suit and a blank face.

Someone wrote:According to the legend, he can stretch or shorten his arms at will and has tentacle-like appendages protruding from his back. Depending on the interpretations of the myth, the creature can cause memory loss, insomnia, paranoia, coughing fits (nicknamed “slendersickness”), photograph/video distortions and can teleport at will. The urban legend has inspired fan arts, fictional creepypastas and a mockumentary series in the style of the 1999 indie horror film Blair Witch Project.

Now, our aim with this game/mod is to really frighten players, and give them that experience we will want & crave for when we play a horror game, or even watch a horror film. That feeling of being scared. With Slender: Source, players will be able to play with up to three of their friends and traverse a variety of environments trying to uncover who/what the Slenderman really is, all while collecting strange little dolls that resemble children; which the player can try figuring out the purpose of these dolls. Were they victims of the Slenderman, or are they just normal, creepy, dolls? That decision comes up the player's imagination. So, yes that's right. We're making a multiplayer version of the Slenderman story, and we've gotten inspiration by the game "Slender" which was a Unity project developed by Parsec Productions in which you must avoid looking at the Slenderman to go insane. It's a wonderful, and terrifying experience which everyone should check out, which you can find right here as well as some gameplay of the said game, to hopefully interest you in what WE plan on doing with the legend, and the creature.

Slender by Parsec Productions - Slendergame.com

So, how are we trying to make our version different? Simple. Four players will be playing as teenagers who are sent out on a dare to try and find/discover the myth behind the Slenderman. The game will then thrust these players into a variety of environments where they must find 15 dolls (which resemble creepy children) and collect them without being killed by the Slenderman. The game has no time limit, and the only goals by the players is to survive, and collect these dolls. Once all of the dolls have been collected the game will end. There is no combat, and no way to defend yourself.

The Slenderman will be able to kill you within one hit, so try to avoid him as much as possible. We also are not restricting players to one environment, so upon release of the mod/game players will be able to explore two different kinds of environments when playing the game. The first being the standard woods that you've come to see in the Unity title, as well as an abandoned hospital. So, two maps upon release that should take roughly 30 minutes to an hour to complete, but don't fret! With teamwork, and proper thinking you should be able to complete the maps/levels without dying. We have a ton of levels planned for this game, but we'll only be shipping with two maps to start out, and hopefully finish off with around 8.

How Can I Help?
That's right! You can help with the production of Slenderman, and it's fairly simple. All you need to do is model us a character model for the Slenderman which is animated. We already have maps being designed, and code being written, as well as props being made, and even music being composed. All we need is someone to get us their own creation of the Slenderman, references images will be added to this post. The first three people to submit a model of their Slenderman will be put on a list for people being accepted into the beta testing. So, we hope everyone is interested in what we're trying to do!

interesting concept.
Could have a lot of potential if it's done right.

Does the slenderman have to look like in your reference pic or is it just the direction it has to go.

BTW: fairly simple - create an animated character

...ROFL

You rather should look for a character artist willing to join your team.
Meanwhile you could use placeholder characters for the slenderman and the players.

Show that you're able to handle the coding and leveldesign part and i'm sure there will be a character artist interrested in your mod, too.

As far as community contests go, you could do a contest like:
draw us an image on how you imagine the slenderman.

That way you'd find out what appeareance will scarry ppl the most.

True that. We're currently using placeholders at the moment, so we know that the maps & code are working. Then, we'll finish off by tossing in the new models, etc.

Sounds interesting. I think it'd be more fun for players to not know about the dolls, or how many there are beforehand. Discover that themselves; all they know is that slenderman is after them.

Will this be entirely free, or require TF2/CS/HL, or what?
