ScrumbleShip is the most accurate space combat simulation devised to date. Gather resources, construct a capital ship out of individual blocks, then pilot it with AI or human help against other players.

Ok, so they don't look like much. But that string of exclamation points is the first textured 2D rendering AND the first font display in ScrumbleShip that will function on a Mac.

This is a long time coming, and is cause for celebration!

There are still quite a few hurdles to get over - First off, the messages was SUPPOSED to read "Hello World!". Secondly, the way the texture rendering right now is a little too font-specific, and I'd like to make it a little more generic, so I can use the same calls for the 2D buttons and HUD.

Still, it's just a matter of time before I solve these issues. Things look bright!

Cheers,

Congratulations! Textured 2D rendering is a major accomplishment, even if it looks like merely a bunch of blurry exclamation points right now. :D

So what are some of the things you plan to do with 2D renderings and font displays? Information on in-game computer screens? Targeting info on the HUD?

Mostly I'd just like to port what we've currently got to this new system. The old system relies on a compatibility layer that wasn't (And probably won't be) implemented in OSX.
