Our final build is out, and to celebrate the conclusion of this project we would like to share a video with the community. This video is the level design process that we had gone through.
The last thing I would mention is that the design process is different for everyone. Some of us skipped the paper design due to the fact we were already familiar with making levels. The two more common ways to create a level is to design the level around a gimmick, or around geometry.
When we design the level around a gimmick, we would chose a main action we want the player to perform in that level, and then create geometry to support that action. For example the level 3 of the second world, we want the player to land on both sides of a platform in the level. That was the gimmick. The entire geometry in that level is just to force the player to perform that action.
The level 18 of the last world had no particular gimmick. That puzzle was designed around the geometry itself, which usually requires a little bit more planning. Some of us did paper design for that, others would just play around with the level editor until they get the “feeling” they were looking for.
Downloaded the demo, but couldn't play the game. The key bindings quoted didn't work. :( (i.e. A left D right Space jump etc). anyone else having this problem?
Did you download the Desura App version or the standalone version?
Thanks a lot guys
The full game have plenty of challenging puzzles for those who enjoy some mental exercise.
Omg, epic puzzle! Played the demo... :P My brain >_< It hurts! +10 for game & music. I like the atmosphere. Nice work and well done guys. Keep working!
Very cool game , played the demo. You actaully have to use some brain , which is not present in many games.Had a lot of fun playing the demo.Cosidering that it's 2 am in the morning it my brain was boiling a little xD well done!
Hey, cool game, I played the first 6 levels. I like the design choice in giving the golden apples - what do the golden apples do? Also, the way the player smiles when she jumps reminds me of Rayman's jumping animation, which is a pleasant thing!
I didn't check but are there keyboard-only controls (to avoid having to use the mouse when clicking around)?
The initial idea was for the apples to unlock different characters/levels.
But unfortunately we ran out of resources, so can't create the art (animations, background, decoration assets) for the extra content.
We will eventually add more content if we get the chance.
