Death and destruction in the Jungle A beautiful region of forest show a nice small village in the distance. As we get near, however, what we see is a scene of desolation: funeral rites of many bodies, natives crying. The village is dying out, dying out because of the River that is also close to death. Potira is 13 years old and is a native warrior girl of this faraway tribe, where no one has ever seen a White Man. Even though the members of the tribe never saw the white man, he is the one decimating them. Hunger and disease that did not exist before appeared along with the disease in the River, the river that once brought life and now brings garbage. The great river is dying, and brings to the tribe only pollution and disease. Something has to be done. All the villagers suffer with the change, and few survive.
