(Previously known as Pixel Miners) Excavate is a heavily inspired, side-scrolling sandbox game from the development group Blue Cake. The game is currently no longer being worked on under the same name.
Greetings!
Some few summers ago I created this page in hopes of showing to the world that I could make my own game like Terraria. Of course by now that's failed miserably due to schooling, work, and overall laziness from myself. Dubbed "Pixel Miners" I aimed to make a game just like the others but with my own unique twist. From that I set my hopes and others' expectations way higher than I could deliver at the time. The result? A few page views a day for what was turning into a dying project. My longest hiatus from the game was over 9 months of inactivity. Someone had a baby in the time it took for me to get off my butt.
Now, under the name "Excavate", my team and I are moving forward after a major stride for our co-programmer Bluelogic. Bluelogic was able to completely overhaul most of our engine. He was able to get our tiling, world generation systems, and inventory systems online and working unlike before and with that we now have a working game...for the most part! There's still a lot to be added and bugs to be fixed (Trees aren't supposed to grow in the air or inside rocks) but we are further than we've ever been. The best part? We've ditched the outdated XNA framework and have started using the more popular and trendy MonoGame; which essentially makes development a bit easier and a lot cleaner.
Below is a short video describing our latest stride. Please mind the quality as Sony Vegas doesn't corporate at one in the morning.
That's all for now. Make sure to stay tuned for more info! Also make sure to check back often as we'll be updating constantly with fresh new images, music, and other content.
Have a super day!

An update regarding where we are at and what we plan on all doing.
Post regarding the game's current status and the game's future.
Pixel Miners will finally see the light of day. Also, the 1900's was a wonderful era.
Something playable is on the horizon! Its pretty much an alpha of an alpha that's still in beta.
We now have a steam group: Steamcommunity.com
"Pixel Miners is a unique 2D sandbox game where players can mine, fight, and adventure."
Which part of this exactly is "unique"? People are just throwing the word around it's slowly starting to lose its meaning.
Well at this point I agree, there's nothing really unique about it. I should reserve that word for the future when there is more content to show. Thanks for pointing it out :)
NP. Sorry if I sounded a bit rude or cynical by the way, I just tend to state my honest opinion without thinking of how people may interpret it

Hi there. My name is Jack and I am 13 years old. I am an independent game developer, graphic artist, web designer, DJ and music producer. I am currently working with the LÖVE2D engine but I am looking to start helping other indie developers as LÖVE is not powerful enough for me.
I was wondering if you would like some help, maybe with sorting out bugs or improving textures (IMO I don't really like the cloud textures or the sun texture). I am not asking for a permanent position but something more like an internship? I think working on a project with as good a looking future as this one could really help get my career started in game development. ~ Jack
Hello Jack, I have been told you're our new music guy. (I was told by Oraki) I quite like the music of yours he's shown me. Looking forward to having you on the team! :) Also, Maybe you could look at our website! (It was made and designed by me.)
Hi Red,
Thank you for the kind words, and please tell Oraki thanks for having me. I'm not sure as it was hard to communicate with Oraki at first (seeing as he's in America and I'm in Britain) but as of now he says music is not a problem and I'm mainly focusing on re-texturing etc., when/if Oraki adds me to the Dropbox I might start making modding tutorials (if that's something you want players to be able to do).
I'm also extremely good at bug-finding and correcting if there is ever any issues with that. If you need any help, like I said to Oraki, I am dj_jack_boyd on Skype.
Cheers,
Jack
Hey jack, I don't know if there will be modding or not, but it does seem like a cool idea. (Terraria and minecraft, this games inspirees did it, so why not us?)
And hey, if you have a steam account you could probably be more involved with us as that is our most used form of communication. My steam name is Redseven, and if you don't have a steam account, you should get one. its free! C: ~Red
