Description
NOTE: BETA 5 for the PC is now free to EVERYONE! These betas are more like demos of the full game (which is available on Desura). Enjoy! --- This is the fourth beta release for Paranormal. Paranormal is a game where you play the role of a person with a camera inside a haunted house. As you play, you'll experience a truly unique haunting experience. No two hauntings are the same. ------ BETA 4 has some issues. THIS IS NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT! I'm releasing this for testing purposes. I will add more to future beta versions. The first floor of the house is nearly complete, and the second floor is also nearly complete. Changelog and more can be found in the description. To everyone having crashing issues: I'm updating the game to a newer version of UDK, so hopefully the crashing issues will be resolved for the final version of the game!

BETA 4 Changelog:
Added new screenspace Material camera shader effect (helps make the game look like it's seen through the lens of a camera).
Fixed the sleep function and animation.
Disabled double jumping and dodging.
Added a fully voiced loading screen that gives background on the player, and shows the controls.
Added a journal entry from the house's previous owner. Find it if you can.
Fixed the Ouija Board and added a new scare with it.
Added a new scare in the bathroom.
Fixed hallway scare.
Increased frequency of some scares, while decreasing certain others.
Beta 4 Current Issues:
The new camera screen effect makes reading trophy titles difficult. Will be fixed in future versions.
Some stock UDK UI elements are still present, specifically a player list and round start 'menu' when starting the game.

Side-Story:
I almost lost ALL the files to the project due to a corrupt UPK file. While I was saving, my power went out and corrupted a vital file that was nearly irreplaceable. I managed to salvage it slightly, but the side-effect is me not being able to edit it anymore. So future updates to previous content will be more difficult and stressful, but not impossible.

Now, I have Failed to create D3D9 device! This can happen when desktop is locked. Exiting... What does that mean?
It sounds like your graphics card is having issues, I think. I could be wrong. I'll look into this, don't worry.
Whenever I start the game, it looks like there's an anaglyph over it like you should at it through 3d glasses. is there a way to remove this or is it just a bug? I tried reinstalling it, and it didn't work.
The game is supposed to look that way, like you're viewing through the eyes of a camera. Since beta 4, I've tweaked the effect and made it more subtle, as you'll see in the final version of the game.
When will the game be compatible with lower grade computers? It runs almost fine on mine it's just a small amount of lag which is impressive considering this computer is a piece of junk.
It runs fine on my computer that was actually designed for gaming though.
The final version of the game will have graphics settings so it will be able to run smoothly on most computers :)

well the big freaking download button never showed up on my internet explorer but was like "yo dawg im right here" on my Google chrome. thank you i feel so stupid, should have tried chrome in the first place.I almost was about to flip my computer desk i was so mad last night. but none the less thank you so ever much

just some feedback, this game should not cost a penny if you have it at retail and have to pay anything even if its cheap no...im not gonna buy to play though it wouldint be fair but you can keep the windows free or lets say you do free offers from trialpay to get enough currency from that to buy the game? that would be better
I'm making a game just like any other developer. I make my living by selling my game. It's my job. There will be a free demo but the final version will be for sale on desura and steam :)

Hey Matt, what's it been like using UDK? I was thinking of becoming an indie developer and I just wanna know.
UDK is an amazing tool to use. It's easy to learn. I taught myself everything I know about it. It's much easier to use than Source SDK or Unity Engine. If you need any pointers or tips, I'll gladly help!
Is this the verison that is compatible with Mac? If not, when will it be out? I'm looking forward to this game!
BETA 5 and 6 are compatible with Macs, but they're currently only available to Kickstarter pledgers of $30 or more. But the final version of the game will launch with both a Mac and PC version and both will receive updates at the same time :)
This might sound stupid but.. how do I change resolution? There isn't any option that allows you to do so, and its playing at 800x600 (terrible)
BETA 4 doesn't have resolution options (though the final version of the game will). To do it manually, while ingame press the ~ key and then type in: SETRES 1024x768x32 w
then press enter. It may require you to restart the game for the changes to apply. Obviously you can change "1024x768" to any resolution you want. Replace the w with f if you want to run the game fullscreen. I hope this helps!

I have tried to install using internet explorer 9... didn't work. tried using google chrome... didn't work... tried using fire fox beta, and what do you know, still didn't work!!!! It downloads, and when i click to play it, it loads the screen that says paranormal and rec. then it says it has stopped working. windows is checking for solutions. So I tried Beta 3 verion and same thing... What else can I do? I want to play your game, for it looks really cool, and wouldn't mind donating money to help you out, but I want to play a simple version first. Beta 5 and above is Mac compatible. The final version will launch on Mac alongside the PC version. It will also get updates just as frequently, so Mac users won't get screwed over like they usually do with game companies.

Fix this bug, please
I need some help please. I have a Windows XP laptop and I downloaded the file and I went to open it up. I clicked 'run' and then it just said "Installation Failed: Your video card must support at least Shader Model 3." PLEASE HELP. I REALLY want to play this game.
ive been getting that 0x000007 err0r or somthing and wont start the game
This game seems really good, other than the fact it won't install. Don't tell me the problem is that I might not have a good enough computer because I'm trying to install this on a 5000$ Alienware computer. Is there anything I can do to fix this.

@liamdryder it probably means your computer is to good for a beta then xD your going to have to get the full version when it comes out

Hey matt! I have watched many videos of your game and I've been really excited about playing it, I own a Mac, and I was wondering if I could download the Beta 4.0 (the latest free beta) for Mac, because on the download site the file is ".exe" and I can't execute it! keep up the good work!
