A fully dynamic haunting-simulator. Experience the horrors of a haunting that's never the same twice. SEE THE SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS BEFORE PURCHASING. Test out the beta to make sure the game will work on your computer. Features: Free Content Updates: New scenarios, locations, characters, gameplay mechanics, and more! Sleep System: Switch to static cameras to watch the house as you sleep. Creepy Sound Design: Headphone users rejoice! Controller Support: Xbox 360 controller and Mouse & Keyboard support. Dynamic Hauntings: No haunting is ever the same thanks to the complex action-reaction and randomization system I made. First-Person Camera: Much like Paranormal Activity or Blair Witch Project, the view is that of the camera. Intricate Ghost Story: Uncover the mystery through journal entries. Graphics: Unreal Engine 3 makes Paranormal look amazing, implementing many of the latest graphical advances. Push your computer (and sanity) to the limits!
NOTE: BETA 5 for the PC is now free to EVERYONE! These betas are more like demos of the full game (which is available on Desura). Enjoy! --- This is the fourth beta release for Paranormal. Paranormal is a game where you play the role of a person with a camera inside a haunted house. As you play, you'll experience a truly unique haunting experience. No two hauntings are the same. ------ BETA 4 has some issues. THIS IS NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT! I'm releasing this for testing purposes. I will add more to future beta versions. The first floor of the house is nearly complete, and the second floor is also nearly complete. Changelog and more can be found in the description. To everyone having crashing issues: I'm updating the game to a newer version of UDK, so hopefully the crashing issues will be resolved for the final version of the game!
Please help me get my game published on Steam!
BETA 4 Changelog:
Added new screenspace Material camera shader effect (helps make the game look like it's seen through the lens of a camera).
Fixed the sleep function and animation.
Disabled double jumping and dodging.
Added a fully voiced loading screen that gives background on the player, and shows the controls.
Added a journal entry from the house's previous owner. Find it if you can.
Fixed the Ouija Board and added a new scare with it.
Added a new scare in the bathroom.
Fixed hallway scare.
Increased frequency of some scares, while decreasing certain others.
Beta 4 Current Issues:
The new camera screen effect makes reading trophy titles difficult. Will be fixed in future versions.
Some stock UDK UI elements are still present, specifically a player list and round start 'menu' when starting the game.
To everyone having crashing issues: I'm updating the game to a newer version of UDK, so hopefully the crashing issues will be resolved for the final version of the game!
Side-Story:
I almost lost ALL the files to the project due to a corrupt UPK file. While I was saving, my power went out and corrupted a vital file that was nearly irreplaceable. I managed to salvage it slightly, but the side-effect is me not being able to edit it anymore. So future updates to previous content will be more difficult and stressful, but not impossible.
good to know, im looking forward to this.
I assume that you are making this with the Unreal Engine, but do you script the models etc. yourself? Because i am trying to make my own game in C++, and im not very experienced, but someday...
I make many of the models myself. Some of them are license free and are legally allowed to be used in commercial projects, but I usually try to just make my own. I'm making the game in Unreal Engine :)
How do you script/code stuff? I always wanted to know :) And i didn't quite understand the chanelog part, will it be in the full game only, or Will you release a BETA 5? :)

It will be in the full game only. The game will be released in a few months. Coding is difficult at first, but I slowly taught myself how. I recommend starting out by editing other people's code and learning how it works before making something from scratch.
Wich programs do you/can i use to code? I have no clue at all how to code.
I want to report a bug too, you can go through the kitchen window. If you jump on the table, you can then then jump through the window. Not sure if this is a bug, since there is a giant figure in the "garden", that look like the figure that is in the kitchen, in the corner with the fridge.

Yo, Matt can you help me? I downloaded the installer from gamefront and when I run it, it says "UNsetup.exe has stopped working". Is there something wrong? Do I need the UDK?
You don't need UDK. Try running it in XP compatibility mode.
When I run Paranormal or 'UDK' it says it stopped working. I tried running it in XP (Service Pack 2 or 3), I tried running it as administrator, I installed .NET Framework 4, I installed the files from the setup in redist. What shall I do?
So running UDK also doesn't work? I don't know if this works with UDK installed. It might require you not having UDK installed. I could be wrong, though. What's your computer's specs? The game requires at least: A 2.0ghz+ dual core processor, 512MB graphics card with shader model 3, and 2GB of RAM.
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.39GHz
RAM: 2.00 GB
Video Card: ATI Radeon X1300/1500 Series that has shader model 3
BIT: 32bit
I tested the game on a machine weaker than that and it worked. I notice some people are having this issue. Does rebooting your PC help?
Um, can you upload a torrent version it's much more faster than downloading in a browser and it's like 7kb per sec. Please, I'm trying to reinstall it
You don't need to redownload it every time you install. The installer should still be in your Downloads directory.
Great Job with this game my main man, I've been looking for a gaming spark since I've been getting a little bored with amnesia. Check this playthrough all might game maker Youtube.com
No, i'm trying to reinstall the setup file not the installed files. Beacause I already reinstalled it like 3x
It didn't work and installing NET framework 4 didn't work :(
I already rebooted it. Didn't work
Hey matt i got a problem with running paranormal beta 4.0.
Whenever i start it up a window pops up saying 'UDK' it says it stopped working. Ive re-installed it three times, rebooted and none work. Im trying to play this on a laptop.
Is there anyway to lower res or make game run faster with less lag. Please help
The final version of the game will have resolution controls, graphic detail settings, and all that to make sure it will run well on any machine.
How do you script/code stuff? I always wanted to know :-) And i didn't quite understand the chanelog part, will it be in the full game only, or Will you release a BETA 5? :-)

*UPFATE*
I wrote that on my phone, and it wouldnt let me comment it as a reply.
I played the first Beta, and I was all like "I love this game *¬*" I did a video of it, and I'll do another for this one too. I'll put the link to your game page, ok?
Now...lets see how will you scare me this time...
oups....Sorry, I can't play D:. It crashes after he says "I'm not crazy".
Well, I'll be waiting for the next one ówo. Good luck with it! x3
UnSetup has stopped working when ever I boot up the installer help!
Does your computer meet the minimum system requirements for the game? Try running the installer in XP compatibility mode.
every time i try to download this game a page come up showing me a youtube video that looks like it has nothing to do with this game, and then it tells me to download something above it, but my computer keeps saying its to unsafe to download. can someone help me download this
It sounds like you have a virus, Jeff. What browser are you using?
internet explorer
Use Firefox or Google Chrome. Internet Explorer makes everything difficult in the world of downloading.
Sometimes when i want to sleep because my battery is running low. its usually the third or fourth night. i go to the bed and press "E" (The action button) but it does nothing and i can't sleep and then my battery runs out. Any help ??
In BETA 4, you can only sleep 3 times (I believe). This was an error on my part. The final version of the game will allow a more logical sleeping system.
Um, reinstalled the setup file then installed it again. Run it in compability mode in Windows XP (Service Pack 3) didn't work.
I'll investigate this issue. It sounds like your installer is corrupted, though.
My installer is not corrupted because I have Internet Download Manager
But sleeping only three times doesn't give me the time to check all the things in the game. Can't you release another one fixing this problem. You don't have to include all the other stuff because i know you'll put it in the full game. So we can have a better and longer experience :)
Anyways, its a GREAT game and I enjoy playing it :D
Windows 7
Gainward GeForce GTX 570 Golden Sample 1280MB
Intel Core i7 260 8MB
I still am having the same problem. I get to the end of the cutscene when it says 'enter the haunting' just after he says 'im not crazy' and then it stops running. I have tried it in windows mode and full screen and it does it in both.
Strange. The game should run fine. I wish I could narrow down the crashing issue. It seems tons of different kinds of computers are getting issues, while tons of others aren't. I'll keep trying to figure this out. Don't worry, I'll do my best to make sure you can play this game.
I have a 64 bit system and it keeps crashing and running in the 32 bit format someone help.
i think the issue is with the DirectX, this game req 32bit, DX9 where i think most people have Dx10 or 11. I know the new DX's are supposed to be compatible with the past versions but idk. ive installed DX9.0c but it still wont let me play. please fix this in the next beta. This game looks crazy.
You could be right, Alex. The game recommends DirectX 10 and 11, though. 9 is just the minimum requirement.
bleh i have DX11 and it wont work *cry*
I have DX11 and mine works very smoothly.
PLEASE HELP!!! I have 64 Bit how can i play it? Because if i open it the man speaks and after that it says that the game doesnt work. sorry for my bad english
I'm working on fixing the crashing errors. Don't worry :)
Do you need Unreal Development Kit downloaded?
No, you don't.
But the download IS UDK installer. Then when I try to run it, it comes up with the unreal picture n just stays on that screen. Is there no way to download the game without the UDK??
For some reason, the the gamefront download is a significant amount faster.
So, are you gonna fix the error?
