Imagine a world where over the past twenty years nature has reclaimed all that man held up as a monument of their accomplishments, which now lies in ruins.

Only the memory of those still alive from a time long forgotten can remember how great we had once become. Far removed from what exists today, you would hardly give a thought to the remnants of the framework that once supported a city that now lies beneath a forest.

For the first time in recorded history the largest X-class coronal mass ejection (CME) reached out to earth directly on the Sun-Earth line and sent us all back into the dark ages on a global scale. Not only did it take out all power grids, but corroded all the oil and gas pipelines as well. Satellites and planes fell to the earth causing destruction and wildfires throughout the urban centers and the remote areas.

Anarchy ensued, looting was out of control and many were killed in the chaos. Law and order no longer prevailed, rather a self-imposed justice and power grabs would fill the void. Those who could not thrive in this new world of brutality, became targets, from which the thugs would take from those who would not or could not fight back to keep what little they had.

Starvation would become the reaper of many, as disease soon followed and ravished the malnourished. So many on a global scale all at once, took a real toll on those who survived. So many bodies could not be disposed of, causing plague to sweep through all populations of the world.

Wild beasts soon fed on the carcasses of our dead. Man was now seen for the first time as a natural prey to the predators in the wild.

Those who were victimized and weak took to the shadows, going to the underground by day to keep out of sight and only surfacing by night to rummage for subsistence. Over time they simply lost all traces of their humanity, reverting to a more wild and animalistic pack mentality. Feeding hoards now made sure you were the one preyed upon, making the city too dangerous to venture into at night.

Those of us who were left and kept our sanity and wits about us... Survived!

New Character

News

This is our first Off the Grid character created by Earl Estess.

Bio: John Dagert was born down in the Louisiana bayous in the year 1972, he grew up knowing the swamps and how to survive in the worst of situations. As soon as he graduated he joined the army 1990 and fought in Desert Storm a year later.

After serving two terms in Iraq, John came home and drove a lumber truck for a swamp logging operation back in Louisiana during the fall and winter months. During the off seasons months of Spring and summer he could be found tagging gators with his old man and brother in the back canals of the swamp. As Gator season is so short, during late spring and summer months, John would go shrimping on his uncle's boat for the rest of the off season. Seemed whatever John took to it was outdoors.

John could usually be found at Sal's Razor Back Bar & Grill during the off hours as there was nothing better than Sal's razor back ribs with a stiff jigger of Scotch.

A hard worker and a man of his word, but mix that with liquor and that could land him in a bit of trouble from time to time as he was never know to back down form a fight and at Sal's you could bet it was usually over a woman.

Can I just say this looks absolutely beautiful. The whole direction of the game seems so good! I would help you guys as I am a programmer but I'm not that great with C# or Java. I'm currently studying C++. Really good luck with this. Tracked.

So, since I'm fairly sure this would be a permadeath game, will there be customizable server options or no? Or is this an MMO? I say this because (as people who have seen my posts may know) I'm not a fan of peramdeath most of the time, though I do enjoy a good death penalty. So I'd really be looking forward to this game if there were server options that let you set the death penalty or at least set the starting gear (whether it be nothing, a can of food, or a firearm and some ammunition). I doubt this is a planned feature, though I like to ask these questions whenever a game like this comes around because I'd like to find a game like this that I enjoy. I also do 3D modeling so I like to look for games that I'd be interested in playing to work on. If there's nothing like what I stated planned and you're against the idea, that's fine, I won't be interested in this game if that's the case but I wish you the best of luck in development anyways. :)

Our goal is that after Kickstarter, we can a release mod tools
so that other`s who are hosting their own server can change the map up to the way that they want to, as well as, any death penalties or permadeath if they prefer. The element of danger is highly sought out by players and we are fans of anything you might want to pursue in this direction. So we will keep this in mind when issue the mod tools so you can set-up these different options.

As far as starting options we can give you control there as well. Our original idea is to equip everyone with a primary weapon. As you figure they did not just appear in this world but have probably lived here for a while. This allows a new player coming onto the scene to defend themselves and not just be bait for those more established. Though their starting weapon is not the greatest as it is showing sings of wear and tare. So you would have limited usage before you needed to use a gun cleaning kit or upgrade to a new weapon.

So you can play anyway you want on your server and we will give you the mod tools to set it up any way you want to play "Off the Grid". Great questions!

Thanks for your encouragement. It was amazing to find out how tough it was to get that animation right. You would think something like that which is so common in a game like this would be a given, but it took several attempts from different people before we found someone who got it right.
