As mentioned in a previous update, we decided to write our own custom engine for Natural Selection 2. Today we give you a first look at this engine and hopefully it will give you an idea of what NS2 will look like.
In this videocast, Charlie and I talk about the dynamic lighting, shadows and atmospheric effects in the "Evolution" engine and how it will speed our workflow and let us preview changes instantly.
Special thanks to Jon Finger who shot and edited this for us. For a high-quality version of this video, click here (Quicktime, 24 MB).Hope you enjoy it!
P.S. We just created a Twitter account for NS2. You can see updates on the right side of this page or follow us.
Very purdy.
a good choice to make your own, source is no good.
it's better then you :p
Different strokes for different folks.
Yea much better that they made their own
Beautiful! glad to see you've moved away from Source! Not surprisingly it also looks much better than the Source Engine ever could. Keep up the good work!
Love the lighting.
looks really neat
Alright, you guys win. Although I'm saddened that this won't be for source. I'm a source *****. :) However I have no doubt that this will be completely and utterly awesome.
that is amazing! everything looks so polished with your engine. the editor looks a little like the unreal editor.
i must ask: how did you make your own engine/editor? did you use some base code? did you build upon an existing engine? or did you write it from scratch in c++ or something?
i hope some of the other skilled modders will learn from you and start making their games standalone. by doing this, it may help to get your game into the retail market :D
looks like ya'll just re-created unreal engine lol
Without paying a buttload of cash.
Looking good guys. Will be keeping an eye out on progress.
WOW! That looks amazing, well done, well done!
It would be great to see some of that dynamic infestation on the engine in your next video, thats for sure :)
A own engine, thats amazing, good to see good mods going to full game. All the best for u guys.
"It's starting to look nice" , it already looks kick ***! better then Source definitely paying for this game!
Hey thanks!
The game will not be free - we'll sell it for around $20-30 I think. We'll sell it from our website (http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2), through Steam and some other portals too.
Looks awsome... I wanna see the phisics...
