About the game:

The start date for Nations if January 1st, 2018. You take control of a Nation of your choosing, and lead it as either its elected leader or tyrannical dictator. You will be able to shape your nations government, changing it from 1 ideology to another in many ways. You will be able to redraw the borders of the world to how you see fit, and carve out a new world empire. You will be able to slowly take control over countries with vast amounts of wealth and influence. You will be able to research, design and build your own weapons of war, from rifles to nukes.

I'm making nations because I want a grand strategy game that will allow me to customize everything, and feel as though I control a nation. I wanted a game that would almost be a sandbox, letting me do whatever I want. That is the plan with Nations, at the end of the day its a game I want to make for myself. If I wake up one morning and think of something that sounds like a fun idea, I will add it. And if you wake up in the morning and think of a good idea, let me know and I might add it. Anyway, I will go into more detail now about the games main features.

Features (This list will grow when I want to reveal stuff):

Research, Design and Build your own weapons:
Inspired by the design system in Superpower 2, this system allows you to create all your nations weapons. You will research into certain areas (speed, damage, armor, range, etc) and then with those advancements, you will create 'Modules'. Modules are the parts of your weapons, for example the engine of a jet or the magazine of a rifle. The creation of a module takes time and money, however when it is done you can use it in the final weapon. You will also be able to sell the module to other nations, this is useful for nations with little funds but good research, as creating final weapons costs a lot of money. The final weapon takes multiple modules, and then also takes time and money to make. When it is done, you can begin producing the weapon/unit.

Update - 3

UI-

UI

The four management tabs have been added. These open the windows to Economy(£), Military (M), Government(G) and Diplomatic(D). A month, data and hour counters have been added, however they still need some work. A pause button has also been added, bringing up the pause menu.

Management windows-

At the moment they are mostly just UI and nothing else, however they act as a frame for me to work from. They may also change throughout development.

Economic:

This window allows you to see how much money you have, how much you are making monthly (or spending), unemployment percentage, state factories and private factories. It also leads to the budget window, allowing you to set how much of your total money you spend, and how much of that total money is split among the three areas (Military, Government, Diplomacy). At the moment, earning is decided by how much you are gaining from Tax and you make your earnings at the end of every month. The three budget sliders also cap when they combine to make 100%, although there are a few bugs that need fixing .

EconomyAndBudget

Military:

This window allows you to set how much of your Military budget goes into certain areas, research, construction and secret service. It also has three buttons that lead to those categories windows.

Military

Government-

The government window allow you to view your ideology, party name and party popularity. It also allows you to change your laws, join, create and manage organisation (NATO, EU, African Union etc) and construct new buildings and other projects in your nation.

Government

Terrain Types -

Om the screenshots above, the new tree models can be seen. They represent forests, and reduce ground unit movement by 30% (Can be changed with unit modifiers). I have built a system that makes it very easy to add new terrain types such as hills an valeys, however I’m still working on ways of making them visible on the map.

Some people have asked why updates arn’t being posted regularly like I was before, this is because of the way I’m developing the game. Because I have a life to live, i’m not working on nations 24/7, instead I work on my games during holidays (UK). Because of this, no updates will be posted till around Christmas, when I have more time to spend working in the game.
