Mr Makeshifter
An abstract roguelite platformer with ultra-bootstrap crafting elements.
(e.g. rig together a pogo-stick or a spear on the fly, or retain the components for more complex results, dismantle and recombine them into something else to overcome the platforming chaos).
Platform: Windows, Mac, Linux

About the game
'Mr Makeshifter' is first and foremost an action platformer. Your goal is your own. Avoid or murder enemies. Obtain some sort of an ending if you like. Otherwise just enjoy the raw platforming experience. Not only do you find, pick up and use tools, but you can also combine tools in different ways to create entirely new tools, (e.g. [spring]+[pole]+[spike]= [pogo-drill-of-stabbing] ~ upon which you can bounce around and destroy terrain with).
Player-driven Endings
This game also has puzzle elements designed to encourage exploration and backtracking. These are ultimately harnessed in the form of player-driven-endings. Players may choose not to 'win the game' by reaching a number of exits, but may instead choose to trigger their own narrative loose ends to tie up into their own ending.
For example, in the full version the player can encounter a wandering creature which they may choose to kill. If instead they choose to befriend the creature, it may lay an egg. this egg may ultimately hatch somehow, and the hatchling may follow the player. a few events down the narrative line and this creature may influence a unique ending that will be satisfying to the player, as they forced it into happening through their own decisions.
These decisions will remain largely organic and action-driven, rather than dialogue choice driven.
For example, where the player might have just chosen from a list of dialogue options, they will instead actually perform an action, (punching, following, ignoring, acknowledging... etc).
Where the player might have just chosen a reward for doing well, they are instead led towards choices that are favourable, and tools that are more useful for combining with, to maintain the momentum of play.

Mr Makeshifter has been accepted onto Desura's 'alphafunding' scheme, and will be released on the 20th June 2015 at this link!
You will be able to access and play this game throughout it's development with regular updates and news on it's progress! Arboreal is very excited and hope you will join in as the release window draws near, and weigh in your feedback on this brutal platformer.
Arboreal is now making a concentrated effort to polish the game ready for this preliminary early-access launch window. Currently on the development hit-list is a massively improved AI for enemies that can traverse the entirety of a level reliably (I will release a development update video to explain the system once complete), improved background music, more level mutators for level 3 ('molten mindlessness'), and a slew of other minor enhancements.
Come and join us as we develop this intriguing little title!
Hi all, I've just finished the final touches on an extensive tutorial to teach players the mechanics of the game demo. I would appreciate all feedback...
Looks interesting enough. Tracking.
Bwt, are you also interested in supporting more than just Windows?
Cheers mate :}
At the moment I'm focusing on Windows PC, but if there's enough demand for multi-platform support I would definitely consider it further down the line.
Are there any specific platforms you had in mind?
(I don't believe phones have enough buttons)
I don't care about phones to be honest. ;)
I had Linux support in mind. Unity supports it quite good. As long as you don't use any Windows-only third-party libraries, you're good to go.
As far as testing goes. Well, Linux is free. :3
Yeah, very good points!
I suppose when I've moved on to using download links for the demo I'll have separate links for builds for the various platforms... good idea ;]
At the moment it's just embedded into a web-browser so... *shrug*
Just to follow this up: the demo is downloadable in a single downloadable installer now on the main site. This installer detects your OS, and automagically installs to Linux, Mac or Windows.
