It's hard to explain to people who haven't played Mount & Musket and participated in the community-organised line battles, what the game is really about. Mainly because there really isn't anything else like this on the market today to even compare it to.

Line battles. So, Mount & Musket had a community of thousands of players who participated in weekly and daily line battle events hosted entirely by the community themselves. They re-enact line battles as they would have been at the time i.e having a rank structured regiment, musicians, flag bearers, issuing authentic commands through Teamspeak and so on. All one simply has to do is visit Youtube and type ' Mount & Musket Line Battles ' to see what it's like, there are hundreds of videos.

These line battles are very addictive. When I first started attending I was amazed how 250 players could be so organised, it really is fun to be a part of.

How does Napoleonic War improve on this?

More customization for characters, high resolution textured uniforms that look OUTSTANDING and are authentic, bigger maps, new faction ( Austria ), updated and vastly improved voice commands combined with the musket sounds and shells bursting overhead bring to the player one of the most immersive Napoleonic era experiences available in a video game to date. Also much of the code has been rewritten to help support 250 players on the battlefield.

The only temporary downside is that there are bugs currently, but they will be fixed as the development team, Flying Squirrel Entertainment, are dedicated to the game. But it is very much playable and totally worth the £8.

My advice to new players would be to visit the regiment section on the official forums and get to know the regiment names, play in as many servers as you can and you'll be asked if you would like to join a regiment in no time and at least this way you'll be informed about who they are etc.

Happy gaming, one of the best games to come out in a long time.

Vastly improved from the Mount and Musket Battalion mod. The new engine and content is the best I have seen in anything Mount and Blade related.

This game is absolutely fantastic, hands down one of the best online shooters that there are to day. It gives you a great online experience, the chance to meet many great people from the gaming community, and for those who consider themselves to 'have a life' it is a great game to help past the time with friends.

Muskets, horses, line battles, and musicians are a much better option than assault rifles and grenades.
