Hello all! I've begun a campaign to set Monster RPG 2 free! That means free to download and play (without ads or "in app purchases" or ANYTHING like that), and also open source. I want to help people make games using the Monster RPG 2 engine as well. Of course all this means that any and every Desura user will be able to get M2 for free on their platform of choice!
The tricky part is I have to raise a little money to make this happen, so I can continue to work on other games (and, if you check the link at the end of this post, you can gain alpha access to the latest one by helping out!) I'm not asking for much, but I still have a long way to go before my $1,500 goal.
Without further adieu, here is the link to the Indiegogo campaign:

Thanks for all your help and past and future support here on Desura!

This is a fun little game. It's similar to the SNES era RPGs, but not quite as polished as some of the greats. I don't think it's fair to really compare it to those games though, since this is an indie effort and not a big team production. All things considered, it's quite good. It captures the feel of a past era, and is great fun to play for a few hours here and there.

First of all, kudos to you for having the courage to develop a classic RPG with lots of monster types. A truly daunting task. This game tries hard to be classic JRPG with a twist, but it fails on several points. First of all, as a PC gamer, I love my keyboard and I do not take kindly to dumbed-down control schemes if they slow down or complicate gameplay. If I want to play a game on an iPhone I can expect to have only one real action button available, so it will either be an arcane combination of…

Have mentioned the sale on www.gamingonlinux.com on our sales page for you Gamingonlinux.com
Thanks! :)
The first user who reported the missing letters issue fixed it by upgrading his distro (Ubuntu 10.10 -> Latest Ubuntu.) If you experienced this problem, consider upgrading your distro and/or drivers.
Runs great on Kubuntu 11.10 64 bit. And I think I am going to end up playing this quite a lot
as an aside, you guys got the honour of being the first game review on my blog

Thanks, I appreciate the review! :)
oops, double post.
Okay so I have it working fine by adding the -fixed-pipeline argument in the desura start up script, but I have another bug. The character keeps moving to the right. I get this issue in other games as well (except they're always stuck moving top left) so I don't know what's going on.
This issue is almost certainly related to motion or drop sensors in a laptop. In Linux those things get joystick device names and behave just like joysticks. There's no way to tell the difference that I'm aware of. So the game thinks your drop sensor is a gamepad and uses it for input. The good thing is, it can be solved by removing the sensors kernel modules. You just have to find out what they're named. this page: Monster-rpg.com may help. If you find the module names are different, it would be most appreciated if you update the wiki :).
Poked around with the game files and WOW - this game has music encoded in FLAC! ;-D
