Your theory is impossible because I took this in single player after getting out of the mine you see behind it >.>

Wouldn't the particles of the block be in the screen?

no it actually does happen. i've seen it on some of my worlds. but becouse i didn't know it then i kinda build my first home on it (my area was big) and when you delete only one sand the whole thing colapses. i did lose my first base becouse of that :DD
but ya it does happen allthough i don't know how :D

Yeah, this happens all the time. When I go cave exploring close to the surface or through a cave under a body of water, there is usually sand hanging out on the ceiling.

If you break one, they all come down, and it usually floods.

when the world loads some sand can stay up. as soon as you destroy one though all others doing the same that is touching it will fall to. had that happen to me the whole roof nearly came down on me

Not a glitch, When water/lava is in a cave and then it disappears, it leaves the floating sand sitting, it doesn't spawn there, if it did, it would fall.

Not only then, it happens whenever a cave is generated under gravel or sand. Happens very often in cave-rich desert areas.

Natural blocks won't move unless you destroy the one under it, it always happens with me, and I found a trick to destroy all blocks that fall easily xD

Sometimes bid gravel fields are hiding caves. You just have to break one of the right blocks and and the the cave will be revealed.

We all know sand is affected by gravity so would some one explain to me how this happens?
