Post news Report RSS Alpha stress test

Here is an update on Medieval Times progress. I am currently hard at work at hammering out the last few bugs before going to the Alpha release!

Posted by on

There have been many quirks along the road but the game is getting closer and closer to release. The last few days I have been stress testing the combat system and NPC AI. In the tests I've had around 20-50 enemies that wants to battle the player.

In the tests and in the alpha there are currently three types enemies (more enemies are planned for the full game). The ones which you are likely to encounter in the alpha release are:

The Bandit
These enemies most often comes in groups of three or more. When a bandit comes near he will try to find a free attack position as close to the player as possible. He's got a pretty wide alert radius so it's wise to be cautious if you only wish to fight against one bandit at a time.

The Rat
This is a rather friendly creature. It will only attack if you attack it first. They are also pretty agile and can be hard to hit if they are not feeding. Most often they run away when approached. Rats are often found in groups of two or more.

The Beast
This four legged beast is very quick, ferocious and relatively new to the lands. It will attack you at first glance. The creature has a thick gray skin and large claws. It seem to like dark and damp locations such as caverns. The beast is most often encountered walking alone, their origin is unknown.

I hope to expand on the creature list. In the full game there will be monsters that flies and creatures that gets around by jumping or crawling.

I have also been recording sounds for the game. Sounds such as falling rocks, sword fighting sounds, foot steps among other things. I try to record the game's sounds as much as possible by myself. I took a photo of my "equipment" during the last recording session. It involved me throwing rocks onto these other rocks which I had put into a small pile on a towel. I found this gave me a nice muffled sound.

Well, that is all for now. Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you!

Interesting, I like how you are making your own sound effects. I'll be tracking this!
