McDROID is a surreal Action Tower Defense with - mega frikkin' lasers that talk - upgradable robots - Gattling turret - crop and monsters that mutate - an economy based on giant strawberries. - levels hand crafted like they used be. - Cute cartoony Borderland graphics, but it's hella tough so you may have to co-op with your friends to take down that insane Mutatosaurus. Imagine the hectic big boss fights of RTYPE combined with the smarts and resource management of Dune 2. That's McDROID, our first game, made in homage of these awesome classics. It's original, with gorgeous cell shaded graphics, boasts 100 enemies on screen at once, the most badass weapons (linking teslas, wave canons, bot factories...) and unusually challenging enemies. It's a tough game, not for the faint of heart and it's got co-op multiplayer.

I own this game for 5 weeks now and I still blame myself for not having found this game before!

This game is not your average game. It combines a very interesting graphical style with a sort of base-building, mech warrior, tower-defense and you're in the middle of it.

At first I thought the game was too difficult, but once you get the hang of it (which might take you a couple of play sessions) you'll find that the difficulty is actually just very challenging. And that's not a bad thing, it increases my time with this game. I mean, once I've finished the last level of a game, I'm usually done with it. But McDroid just invites you to unlock the most difficult 'Nightmare' levels, of which I have completed about half, requiring 20 tries per level.

I remember, when playing Painkiller or Amnesia, when I kept losing, or not advancing in the game, I just quit. But this game looks so cute, a bit Far Cry-ish (1), everything just looks so fun, you keep playing.

For a Beta version, this game runs incredibly smooth. I can play Full HD resolution on my desktop computer and even my simple laptop I write software on, runs this game smooth. The idea of the creators adding even more functions, levels, options and or critters to this game is so appealing, I even created a twitter account so I can check on the developers every day and see if they already have an update for me! Uh, I mean... us.

I give McDroid a 10 out of 10 because it is a very fun game and in this genre of games (I'm not even sure what genre that exactly is, since this game is pretty much unique) there is no other game like it. A couple of my friends and my little brother already received copies of this game from me, because I encourage everyone to try this game. It is one of a kind and it'll keep you playing well into the night.

Normally not a fan of tower defence, McDROID's take on the format has had me hooked. The player essentially designs the layout of their defence against waves of enemies and performs minimal however meaningful directed action along with a satisfying degree of micromanagement. You collect resources, buy turrets, upgrade turrets, upgrade your own unit and your all important 'base', maintain your increasingly damaged lines of defence and jump in the battles yourself where possible. It can feel like a very busy game at times but it never becomes overwhelming. The challenges are fairly well scaled as you progress and a 'research' system entices the player to buy new equipment and rise to the challenges ahead. Missions have and demand some replayability, attempts at their perfection leading to more research advancement. They're enjoyable to playthrough numerous times. However, the game can demand one too many attempts.

The research economy, that is, accumulating diamonds to spend on unlockables, is poorly balanced. Unlocks are currently too expensive and imply the player must slog away at very well traversed missions to reach the figures expected. The turrets and upgrades aren't just a luxury, either. To progress through the tougher challenges available the player needs access to certain unlocks. Hopefully this issue will be given a quick fix soon and before final release.

Content is still being added, however I don't know how much more is yet to come, and is needed. The game is highly enjoyable with the current line-up but its longevity would benefit from further structures and their accompanying new dynamics. What is present is rather refined and works well together.

At time of writing, McDROID is stable, very enjoyable and looks set to only improve. It's tower defence with a quirky, fun and individual theme. Micromanagement is minor!wordcountwordcou

As for co-op, I can't comment. No experience.

So far i've Found this Game to be insanely fun. But hard as heck once i get to one area, heck i normally hate these types of games. but i love this one.

Now as for the reason it has an 9 out of 10 instead of 10 out of 10..

Edited to update review and score, login problem has been fixed

when i was trying to download this it kept erroring and stopping at 99% on desura ended figuring out to cancle then verify and downloaded the last 1% and got to play.

Sometimes when playing my screen will loose the hud strawberry's and mobs. no big deal really just exit and enter.

Once i can register or login i'll up my rating to 9 outta 10 once they get the rest fixed it'll be 10/10

ps. sorry for bad grammer and english but brain damage is brain damage.

Wow. This game is great.

GREAT GAME !!!

I thought it innovative, but I think it would have to have more types of weapons and also other fruits, not just strawberries, but oranges, pineapples, bananas.

Worth buying this game.

This game is addictive as hell.

You play a little droid that has to defend his malfunctioning lander against an evil corporation that sends monster at it. You have to control your little droid to build defensive towers and carry them around to where they are needed the most. While you carry them you can use them yourself. Later in the game you can buy a "rail" that allows you to carry additional two towers that you can't off load, you can sell them and buy new ones though.

I am only giving this a nine, because A, it is dangerously addictive, and B, some minor details. Those details are so minor that I don't feel they are important enough to mention.

The coop mode is a bit buggy and sometimes you find yourself playing with someone that is hogging all the strawberries you collect, but when I write this review the game is still in Beta, so they may well be resolved when the final version gets released.

Buy this game, but only if you aren't prone to addictions!
