Malevolence: The Sword of Ahkranox is an indie game with the intent to recreate the amazing turn-based, first person RPGs from the golden age of PC gaming using modern game engine technology. Rich classics such as the Might & Magic series, Eye of the Beholder and the like have inspired this new title which, when finished will put its players into a literally infinite fantasy world filled with procedurally generated content. The Sword of Ahkranox isn't trying to compete with the larger, professionally developed RPG titles out there, but instead our aim is to fill a large gap that we believe has existed in game technology since the mid-nineties. It is definitely a must-have for all enthusiasts of the quintessential RPG. The game's procedural engine can generate an infinite number of weapons, items, spells, monsters, dungeons, cities, countryside and even dialogue, allowing the player to explore the game with no end and no reason to stop.

It's cool but the graveyard just doesn't... look right. The mortar should be straight or crumbling, the fences should be tilted (maybe.)

The fences ARE actually crumbling and tilted... It's not the clearest screenshot on the world...

No not that, the fences should not tilt with the rock walls. It just looks bad.

Oh, the rock walls ARE the fences :) they are stone-built blocks with iron latticing sticking out the top! Also, I should note, that graveyard has been abandoned for a few hundred years :)

I know I know, but they should not just be randomly rotated, they should be crumbling and such.

Would not look like this after a few hundred years

The game has this classic look to it like games from the aera of hexen etc. with a few modern shaders and 3D models. While I agree that the graveyard looks wierd, I can see that the malevolence team does not try to present an accurately decayed graveyard after a certain period of time. I dig the retro desgin of everything... a bit strong on the shiny/specular shaders though :P

I am not asking for some hyper advanced realistically decayed graveyard, it just looks sloppy right now though.

I don't think Graphics are rating high atm. Once most of the game is structurally in place as far as programming and the like I'm sure they'll take time to smooth out some of the placeholders and such. I'm betting the sounds aren't perfect yet either. Still it looks like its shaping up. The minotaur and zombie both look neat! Hopefully this gets finished up and we can all play.

That's actually precisely what we're doing :) won't be much of a game if we don't get the foundations working!

Tell me about it! After taking this screenshot he smashed my face in and killed me! That's what I get for going Minotaur hunting with a brand new character!

Wonderful update! I'm happy to hear that the beta is stable and you guys are trucking through the work!
Everything is so beautiful that part of me really wants to run freely across the land instead being restricted to a grid... I know, I know, tribute to classic RPG's... but still I can't help it

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how smooth the movement feels! We've put lots of work into having the best of both worlds :)
