Key of Ethios is a 3D action-adventure game in the vein of modern Zelda titles. In it you play as a party of heroes, each with their own unique abilities that allow them to traverse the world and overcome a wide array of obstacles and enemies. The game focuses on this group as they face off with an organization that's dead set on capturing one of their companions.

Key of Ethios Pre-Alpha version 0.0001

Only for PC, unfortunately; there's some sort of permissions error with Unity's Mac builds that I can't for the life of me figure out.All you need to do is unzip the contents anywhere. The escape key will close the program.

It consists of the first area of the game, Gran Hollow. It's mainly the tutorial area, so it's made to get the player used to the controls and how the game works.

Default controls are shown in the game as little tips when you get to the appropriate area, as well. It also has controller support, but the Xbox controller is the only one I've tested it on:
WASD / Control stick - Movement

Space / A  - Jump

Q & E / Triggers - Switch characters

F key /Y button - Hold (Control all characters separately)

Alt / B button - Use

Shift / Left Shoulder button - Skill

Left Mouse Button / X button - Attack

Right Mouse Button / Right Shoulder button - Defend


Some friends and I spent yesterday breaking it and fixing whatever bugs cropped up. We got quite a few, but there are some that aren't caused by the code, but Unity itself. This, of course, is really annoying. Here's hoping that Unity Pro is more dependable.

With this, there's only about a week and a half until I want to launch the Kickstarter campaign. With that, I'll be able to focus on the game's development and afford audio stuff like sound effects, amazing music, and some voice acting!

The former; you can wander about as you please between traveling to 'mission' areas, like modern Zelda games.

It's mostly just me. The only thing I can't do is the sound and music, so I've got some help with that; Sam English is going to compose, and Hyperduck Soundworks is going to handle the sound effects.

Wow, my respect.

The textures look sometimes a tiny bit too low-res, but to think one guy did all this AND is coding the whole stuff is impressive.

I wish I could do the same for my project ...but coding is for me completely incomprehensible.

Thank'eh! Coding was rather difficult for me too, at first; I'd decided that I'd just start, and learn along the way using Unity's scripting resource. It's worked out pretty well thus far, methinks.

The sun uses a directional light, but it's at a pretty low angle. It'll look a lot better once I finally figure out how to use Unity's lightmapping system.

The dark lighting is due to the level taking place during the morning; The ambient lighting is usually pretty dark.
