RSS Feed Incursion Development Ceased

Due to repeated delays, missed deadlines, and increasing financial pressure, Cube Noir is officially ceasing development of Incursion.

Posted by gazornonplat on Dec 16th, 2012

As the company's founder, let me offer my sincerest apologies for the slowness of production leading up to this, and indeed the cancellation itself.

As those of you who have been following us here and elsewhere throughout the development process will know, many of our deadlines have been pushed back, missed, or forgotten, often without any formal explanation.

What you may not know is the length of time the game has been in production: While the complete team has been working on this game for over a year, I started work on it over three years ago.

The game as it currently stands is not even half-finished, and at the current speed of development, completion of the project simply isn't a realistic goal.

It breaks my heart to call it a day, after investing so much in the project, but Incursion has always been ambitious for a debut title, and it has long been my fear that it would prove just too ambitious.

I wish it came as more of a surprise to me than it does, but for Incursion, this is definitely the end of the road.

I would like to thank you all for your support throughout the game's production, both financially and emotionally. We may not have accomplished what we originally set out to, but without all of you, we couldn't even have made it this far.

So from myself, and everyone else here, thank you all for what has undoubtedly been the most educational, eye-opening, and uplifting venture of my entire life.

Peter,

Same thing happened to me on my first indie game. Don't let it get you down. Start over again really small, and do what you can to get some games out the door.

What are you planning on doing with the work on the engine you've done so far? I wouldn't exactly mind getting my hands on it.

Elements have been incorporated into our other project, The Sky Belongs To No One. It's a very different style and tone of game though, and it's being developed by a different team.

I definitely won't be releasing the source code to other people though; Incursion was very much a learning experience for me, so some older parts of the code are just plain crap.

If you're interested in TSBTNO though, you can find some more info here: Petermoorhead.com

Fair enough, to be honest.
I will keep a close eye on TSBTNO.

I actually enjoyed playing what was made of this game. It wasn't what I expected - an average, everyday 2D game with a retro-art style. It was different and unique - in it's own way. I feel it was one of the best 2D games I played last year - awesome music and good storytelling, IMO. Shame it's cancelled - was gonna buy it but I'll check out your new game. Sorry for ******** on it before - you've earned my respect, as a person, developer/game maker and writer. You're very creative - too bad the project was too big a vision and not enough progress was made. Very sad for me :<)

Don't tell Rumpel - I liked this game more than his and some of the indie projects that were released in 2012! I wrote my honest opinon, on things, on your article here:

Indiegamemag.com

I'm still keeping the betas/demos - they were really good and had some nice ideas + concepts. Am now taking a gander at your newest game - good luck with your future projects and the best of luck to you!

Thanks a lot man. It's extremely cool of you to say all that so long after the fact. No worries about it though, it's often the case in arguments like that one that the actual points get buried, and it becomes purely tribal. I don't think either Rumpel or I really helped the discussion by getting so antagonistic towards each other. You might want to read this though, since the previous fiasco relates in a big way to Incursion's cancellation: Gazornonplat.tumblr.com

Thanks again for the kind words on Incursion, and I hope you enjoy my future work. :)
