New screenshots and game play video are still coming soon. I've been a little behind on getting them together, but it should be soon.

Frontier Guard has been completely re-made from the ground up. I will be posting all new screenshots and videos sometime later this month. We are committed to a Christmas release date and are on track to meet that deadline.

The scope of this game has increased since I first started development and consequently the time to completion has changed. Originally planned for a June 1st release, I am now targeting September 1st. I would rather not rush the final game and have a desire to make it all I want it to be.

Release date is now TBD. I won't announce another release date until we have an official one after submission to Nintendo lotcheck.

I received the preliminary music for Stage 1 from my composer. It's sounding really good already. It adds a lot of atmosphere to the game. I'm looking forward to hearing how it develops.

I've secured some additional new 3D art assets for the game and have some of it already in game. I don't think I'll have a new video this weekend, but I should be able to put up a few new screenshots at least. I may just wait on a new video until I have some of the official music ready to go.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I still haven't gotten around to a new video, but development is progressing. I'm just not quite at a point where I feel I want to show it off, but getting closer. I've added the shield power up and the new stage 1 boss battle has come a long way. In addition, my composer has started sending me samples of some stage and boss battle music scores. It won't be long before I'll be able to put some official music into the game.

I'm experimenting with adding more 3D elements to this game. There are already some 3D elements such as the asteroids seen in the videos, but the player ships and enemy ships are currently 2D sprites. I'm going to be upgrading the development version to include 3D models for both player and enemy ships and see how that looks and behaves. This will give me much more flexibility and a lot more freedom for dynamic elements. I should have some examples of the game running in this new mode sometime this weekend.

Experimentation with enhancing the game with 3D player and enemy ships is going well. I converted most of the first stage except for the boss battle to use 3D ships and it looks and feels good. There was no performance drop and the game still runs at 60 FPS. I'm not sure how far I can push this because other levels are going to have much more going on, but I'm going to continue down this path and see how it goes.

I ran into some technical challenges to get the multiple cameras to work together in order to have a 3D space backdrop, a 3D object camera, and a static main camera for the game play all working together to give me the ability to move throughout a 3D scene (ala Ikaruga style) and have the 2D action in the foreground. I finally got it all working today. Now, I need to finish up moving the game play action to the proper place to finalize the concept. That shouldn't be a problem. I'm hoping to have the first stage back in full working order this weekend with this new concept.

And thanks to God for pointing me in the right direction when I was stumped and ready to give up several times.

It turns out that a full Ikaruga style change is going to set development back too far for me to make our deadline. I've amped up the 3D aspects of the game, but it's not going to have the same feel as Ikaruga as I was experimenting with. I'm hoping to have some new game play samples up in about a week to show off the direction I've taken.
