I started programming Fragment Planet about half a year ago. It is my first project with Unity and I have been working in my free time (besides secondary school... I'm from Austria so I'm not sure if this is the correct translation) and I was able to make good progress (with the help of some friends and my teachers, who organised a workshop which focused on making islands for my game... I had 13 workers for two days :D ).
My goal is to make a dynamic RTS gameplay by replacing classic terrains with flying islands.
I'll start with the features that are already finished:
- Menus: A friend made all the textures... He is the only one who helps me continuously and I consider him as the only real team member. He will eventually join IndieDB...
- Floating Islands: They are automatically spawned and will be affected by wind until you build a "stabilizer", which will also grants you the ability to move the island like a unit. Some islands are to big to stabilize them and you can only control them by building bridges from smaller islands.
- Unit and building construction
- 2 Resource Types:
Energy: It is the energy of the islands. It regenerates slowly and can be transferred to other islands trough bridges (Bridges slowly balance the energy levels between the islands). If you use to much energy and deactivate the "Save-Mode" you can use the health of the island to build units or buildings. (You can't repair the islands!) As soon as the health is zero the island will fall down.
Resource: (I will probably get a better name...) At the moment it can only be acquired through the Resource Compressor, which converts energy in resources. - Multiplayer: Although it is quite buggy at the moment the game has a working multiplayer. (the beta won't have singleplayer)
Future Features:
- More units, buildings...
- Land units: I am very afraid of the path finding...
- Better textures: I don't have time to make really good textures and I will try to recruit somebody on IndieDB in March (I will participate in a Austrian competition called "Prix Ars Electronica - U19"... only projects from Austrian under 19 year olds will be accepted... so if this applies on you PLEASE contact me!)
- Weapons like Nukes, or "island accelerators" which can shoot small islands at the enemy.
I will probably release the version of the game that I send to the competition.
