Fortify is a RTS castle defense game. Defend your castle from attacking creatures and eventually their leader Trocles. Starting at the Iron age with only a few slingshooters at your disposal you start getting gold from the attackers. But gold won’t be enough! Construct outposts and send miners to gather lumber, stone and iron to advance through the medieval age and to the imperial age. Each age comes with new ways to defend your castle; oil pits, catapults, cannons, defensive spikes and new units, both ranged and melee with unique abilities.

Announcing the Fortify Release Tournament! For charity!

Hi everyone!
The Fortify Steam Release is getting closer!

To celebrate the release, and the awesomness of the multiplayer, I will host a tournament on April 10th at 17:00 (5pm) CEST. 2 days after release to allow some practice.

Link to the Steam event:
Steamcommunity.com

Link to Challonge tournament:
Challonge.com

Here's the description found on the Challonge page
What is it?
This is a 1v1 tournament in Fortify to celebrate its release.

What can I win?
Winner gets 4 copies of Fortify to give to friends.
Runner up gets 2 copies, 3rd and 4th get one copy each.
It's not all about winning! For every (playing) participant, I will donate 2$ to UNHCR, the UN refugee section. Proof of this will be posted on the Steam community page.

What are the rules?
Games are played with the predefined "Standard" settings in the lobby unless both players agree otherwise.
Games are played 1 vs 1 best of 1. Semifinals are best of 3, final is best of 5.
Bracket system is double elimination [en.wikipedia.org], so even if you lose a game, there is still hope.
The topmost player in the bracket hosts game. The bottom player joins.
Name your lobby: "Round X Game X" Where game is the game number next to your match in the bracket.

After a match, at least the winner must report results by taking a screenshot (F12 default) of the score screen and upload it somewhere so I can see it. I will be in the Steam game group chat. But challonge has places to upload results to the match.
If any bug occur at any time before either castle reaches 0, restart the game. If there is a disconnect, the player that loses the connection will lose. If there is an error with this, please consult me in the game chat.
You will need to be able to do basic communication in English.

Keep good manners!
If your opponent harasses, insults or says derogatory things to you, screenshot the chat and send me proof and I will make a decision about disqualifying the offender.

I maintain the rights to edit and change these rules at any time.

How do I participate?
Get a copy of Fortify on Steam ($4.99)
Create an account on Challonge
Register for the Tournament at: Challonge.com When signing up on Challonge, please use your steam name so it's easy to see who is who!
NOTE: You must "Check in" to the tournament. Check in opens 1 hour before the tournament starts!

Playing it, its pretty fun, but im having trouble getting my head around the game itself.
The controls seem a little clunky, but i think i can get by for a little bit. I think the major things that bother me is the fact that you lose your groups upon reloading the game, so you have to go and rebind your set groups again, which is annoying.
Another thing that bothers me is the unit upgrade. It itself is a great idea, but having to click on the individual units to upgrade them is irritating. It would be faster if you could bring up a menu and do it from there, or at the least have them selected via shift menu and upgrade them from there.
Ive only played a little bit so far. though. So thats all the complaints i really have.

Crashes a few seconds after startup. Or it APPEARS to crash. The game window disappears. But looking in task manager it's still running. Can't kill it with task manager and have to reboot my computer to stop it. I tried restarting Desura, restarting my computer and neither helps.

Windows 7 64 bit fully updated.
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 240

Sorry for the late reply. Have you tried downloading the standalone version and not run it through Desura?

No, I didn't know there was one. Went to the site, just now, and downloaded something named Fortify2013Update.zip. Will try it out later and reply again. Thanks for the response.

No you might be disappointed with that one. That is the original game. :)
If you have the game you should be able to click the "downloads" to the right and download the game. If not you can download the demo here: Indiedb.com
Just click the (small) link in the text that says "download direct". Hope that fixes your problem. Let me know

Played the demo - bought a few moments later. A great little title with a lot of fun and the demo gives a good taste of that fun. It's not huge, so if you'r one the fence try out the demo, clear instructions will walk you through how to play and then you can try up to day 3 and get some time really playing the game.

To the developer - there are only two things I would change to what is in the game; the first is side scrolling when the mouse hits the edge of the screen. The arrow keys work, but with many of the controls on the other side of the keyboard and with no clear reason why edge scrolling shouldn't work it feels a little rustic. A quibble but something that could make playing a lot easier (it would also make it a game that can be played one handed by any who have limited accessibility with both hands).

The second thing I'd like to see is a command on the keyboard or mouse and keyboard that allows one to turn units on the walls to change their direction. Currently you can move them to different sections, but they don't always end up facing the way you want (especially for the units that have very narrow fire channels). Late game its not a problem, but it makes early game a fair bit harder.

I feel that with a few refinements there's a very solid game here with a fair amount of room to expand upon the already present gameplay; I hope it gains in popularity and might give room to allow the designer to expand - adding a more complex castle structure (eg outer and inner walls) and a larger defensible area would be one area that could be looked into.

BTW, got your email and my issue is solved after the 8.1 upgrade for some reason. Who knows, but I'm enjoying it now :)
