One of my biggest pet peeves about Ex Vitro is the design of the main character. While I always intended for him to be a placeholder, I don't have the skills to truly make him memorable. So I had to enlist a real, legitimate artist to do it:
And here is the new guy:
I'm sick of bulky space marines, so I wanted something a little different... and a little bit alien.
No ETA on when he will replace the existing character, but I hope to bring him to life as soon as possible!
A really cool concept.
Indeed, a legitimate artist and also worked on commercial games, too.
Impressive.
Yeah I'm very lucky to have gotten her. Hopefully it can give my work a bit of legitimacy too!
Wow, this look amazing, and definitely memorable!
Thank you!
Spartan-like shield/rifle combo, huh? Thats going to change how the gameplay works to some extent, atleast with the addition of the physical shield and a more agile body form. You may be looking at a big overhaul in terms of gameplay with this.
The controls and movement of the old character will feel quite out of place on this new body if you simply change the art.
I do indeed like the design, though.
Besides all that, I still wonder WHO is the protagonist; a human, an android, a clone or an alien, never mind how did he end up where the game takes place too. So much mystery going on.
Actually, this new character is so radically different from the old one and given how far the game has been developed so far, I'd personally recommend finishing Ex Vitro within its current framework using the old character.
I'm just seeing attempting to substitute the old samus aran style bulky space marine with this almost ninja-like assasin warrior will either look wierd or require a massive overhaul and additional features, significantly changing how the game will be. Thats a lot of work and lot of stuff going scrapped.
A better way would be save this character for an improved and better sequel within the same universe or so.
Yeah it's probably too late to add any new gameplay features to balance the game around. But I figured might as well get the coolest looking character I can imagine, and it could certainly be used in future installments. Maybe in Ex Vitro 2: In Vivo?! lol
Plus, I think this character is more likely to be spin-jumping and bouncing off walls than the existing one. Android... human... alien... why not all of the above? (The mystery builds)
wow, beatifull stuff you got there =)
Thank you, I'm quite happy with everything so far!
Wow awesome game so far. I have not yet completed the beta but so far it's bring back fond memories of Super Metroid and Shadow Complex.
One major request and I'm sure I'm not the only one, please add controller support. An xbox 360 controller or even a classic USB SNES controller would put this game right at home.
Made account just to comment on how awesome this project is!
Thanks for commenting!
Reliving childhood memories was the main reason I made the game, so I'm glad you enjoyed it.
But yeah, for future releases, gamepad support is at the top of the list, among other things. Lots of people want it so I'll definitely put it in next.
