Did you ever want to change some attributes of your character , well here is how to do so. Right now it supports the editing of just about everything you'd want to edit, though there's still plenty of values in the file of whose purpose I'm unaware. See the TODO file for information on what needs to be done with the app still, which is quite a bit. The README file should be pretty informative as well. The app is released under the GNU GPL 2.0.

The apps were developed on Linux, and they use Python, GTK+, Cairo, and PyGTK to do its stuff. It works on Windows as well. I've had at least one report of somebody getting these packages to work on OS X; see the Installation page for some more information on that. (See the "related" section below for an app which is probably much easier to get running on OS X, but only lets you edit Book 1 character files.)

Project Page: Sourceforge
Sourcecode: Github (Full sourcecode is also included in the zip/tgz archives)

For me on ubuntu 11.04 i didn't need any thing to launch the python files it just run them and everything goes well and for windows it just need to install the runtime environment mentioned above

Great game, but developer seems to be forgetting the need for a linux stand-alone installer, many users complaing about this including myself, I do not want to have to install the Desura client for this game alone. Please add a linux installer!

Had to use padsp here as well (Kubuntu 13.04) but then everything works great. Looks like an awesome, old school RPG

I don't pay Desura so that I can hack around with configuration files to get sound working. If I'm paying money for a game it should work on just click & install.

Just noticed this. It's a case of Ubuntu deciding to drop (even optional) support for something that had once been the standard. There's not much Desura or game developers can do about this. I'm still amazed that stream is coming to Ubuntu. They will hit the same problems.

In this case Ubuntu killed any chance for seemless support for Open Sound system. They even broke software in their own repositories without warning developers in their own community. Eschalon (and several other games I have) pre-date this decision by a single distribution. I guess devs are supposed to be rebuilding their entire catalog for each Ubuntu release.

Bugs.launchpad.net

I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to Mint 14 (based on 12.10) during the holidays and I'm still fixing things that where arbitrarily broken for no good reason. At this moment I'm compiling a new kernel for the purpose of unbreaking this problem.

to get sound working on opensuse 12.1 i had to add aoss to the command path in the icon of my workspace.

like this:

aoss /home/Bla/desura/desura %U

and now sound works perfekt!

Why does the game only provide a stand-alone version for Macs? The sequel on Desura provides stand-alone versions for Windows and Mac both, so it shouldn't be a problem to do it for the first one as well.
