First up, I just wanted to say I'm frankly humbled by the fact that Env still gets close to 150 visits a day, and around 40 downloads a day, in spite of it being a very weird, very rough free game released over a year ago. It's a huge confidence boost to know so many of you take interest in.. whatever the hell this game is.
Since my last update, when I was working full-time on Env, I got seriously burned out making the game - it was a brutal process, because making the game the way I have forces me to think a lot about the subject matter of the game - environmental destruction - and that's not a happy subject, and because so much of the game is focused on making the player very uncomfortable instead of being fun, I found it harder and harder to justify the requirement for the discomfort to myself & my peers
That said, I kept making tweaks & changes, got a fantastic soundtrack composed for it, and right now, the game is super close to being ready.
BUT over the last year I've also been working on another game, Barbara-ian, a very different and purely fun-focused game. Barbara-ian's going to be releasing on Steam in around a months time all things being well, so my time is pretty much solely on that right now.
Once that's done, I'm going finish Env and get it out there. Pretty soon I'll set up a Greenlight page, and try and use all of you fantastic, wonderful and good looking people (gosh, look at you! Incredible...) to help me get the game out to all the rest of the wonderful good looking people out there.
To anyone whos been paying attention all this time (and to the end of this post), you're a hero, and your patience will be justified. Just hang on in there and have a good weekend!
Cheers,
Sam
Good to know. But anyway - BarbarIan is not kind of game I want to play. But I want to play Env!!!
Noted! I've enjoyed making Barbara-ian but yeh, its very different. You'll get your chance to play Env, I promise you that
Hello, SamChester, i see your game is going up! Even Markiplier Played it! So, i played your game a bit and thout there was not much of sound, just consitant wind noise. I wanna collaborate with you and make some music for the future.
btw: cool game
Just took a look at Barbara-Ian and I must say it looks rather interesting.
And coming from a fellow developer(although I've never actually released anything) working on a project for so long can wear down on a person and it sucks but at least came back, and made that cool game.
Thanks, glad you think so :)
Also yeh, it's real tough, but that's the nature of the beast! Working on another project as I've done does help you to re-evaluate what it was about the former, bigger project that made you want to do it. In some cases, that means realising it wasn't worth it, and you can move on. In this case, it made me realise what made Env special to myself and the players, so it's given me a renewed purpose to get stuck back in, not to mention the extra experience meaning you can improve on what you did before.
