Diary 10: Beta2
The last couple of weeks I haven’t made much progress on Endurance as I’ve been in the midst of moving countries. Now that things have settled down a bit I’ve been hard at work on the second beta of Endurance. There were some planned features for this release but time has gotten the better of me and so it’s mostly just bug fixes.
Beta1 had a pretty major bug where the game would get stuck after the first time you played it. Endurance would load, but just show a tunnel and some water. You’ll be happy to know that’s all fixed up now.
I’ve been thinking about how I can improve how I test the game before releasing it. I’m just one person, so I’m coding, doing the graphics, promoting, and testing. Unfortunately, this means things can slip through the cracks. To try and make things simpler I’m going to just be releasing the future betas for Windows and the Web. This will let me concentrate my efforts on debugging just these two platforms.
If you’re dying for a Mac or Linux copy I’d suggest giving the Web Player version a go, otherwise feel free to email me at admin@playendurance.com and I’ll see if I can email you a ‘hot of the shelf’ build that may or may not work.
Here are the new features in Beta2
- Halved the size of the web player making downloads a lot faster.
- New textures for grass and dirt.
- Added crash reports so that I can detect and fix bugs.
- Made a lot of progress in switching over to WebGL (but it’s still not quite ready).
