The Old God has left the world and the pretenders are awakening and coming out from hiding. You start the game by designing one of the pretender gods that will compete for true ascension to godhood. The type of god can range from a magically powerful arch mage to an ancient kraken or a mystic monolith that people pray to. Your pretender controls one of over sixty different nations and with the help of that nation he will spread his word and battle the other pretenders. Dominions 3 is a turn based strategy game. You can play single- or multiplayer (1 - 23 players) with simultaneous turns. There are more than 1500 different units, 600 spells and 300 magic items in the game. The game also features a medieval musical score by Erik Ask Uppmark and Anna Rynefors, both awarded the title of Musicians of the Realm by the Swedish Zornmärkeskommiten. Dominions 3 is a highly detailed game and a 300 page pdf manual is included in the download.

Hi Me and two of my friends are currently trying to play Dominions 3 in mutliplayer. When I (and only I) host, we get the following error message for one of the players: CD-key Violation. It's a bit annoying, as I would make the better host here, due to my stable internet connection. |

We're having a similar problem in the Early noobs game. The game is created on Llamaserver. Two players, who are using steam copies of the game, get "CD-key violation". It seems that steam and non-steam copies of dom3 currently can't participate in the same mp games. How can this be solved ? |

Steam and non steam version can be used together, but only if the use different cd-keys. If the same key has been used on both steam and gamersgate, then those two games can't play together. |

Player from that game here. Both the host and I bought our games from Steam independently. You think it's possible that steam is giving out duplicate keys? I've emailed support [at]illwinter dotcom about it. Is there anything else I could do? |

If that's the case, then we have independently been given the same key from two different sources. Though oddly enough, this only happens when I host the game, not when someone else does it. |

People on the steam forum who bought their game through steam and tried using llamaserver have gotten this error as well, per a steam forum post: Steamcommunity.com A bug like this needs to be resolved or it will certainly dampen interest in the game right after it's steam release. UPDATE: there people are posting in the same thread stating that the illwinter email response just said to read the faq. Has there been any sort of official response relating to this issue? I understand dom4 is coming out soon, but this is about dom3's release on steam we're talking about...(and it doesn't seem like any of the dom3 insiders post on the steam forum): Well, it would seem like we've run into another snag. Apparently at least two of us have the same CD-key, as the new turn file that I got back just has a message saying that my CD-key (which I didn't even know that I had) has been used for multiple copies of the game, and that my orders have not been executed as a result. I've sent an email off to Illwinter's tech support, and hopefully I'll hear back from them, but until then it looks like Marignion is going to twiddle its thumbs for a few turns.

Well, Illwinter's reply was just to read Illwinter.com but that page doesn't really say anything about how to resolve the issue. I suppose I'll try deleting this "Key" file and seeing if Steam will replace it with a different key.
I am glad to know that I'm not the only one receiving this error though. just realized I got the same error - let me know if you find a fix" Edited by: elitesix |

Please use the information from that page to figure out your serial number (that's the first part of the key). It must not be the same for any of the player's in the game. This error message is what you get if that is the case. If everyone has a unique key and the error still persists, then I would need a debug log from the host to see what's going on. You can produce it with the -dd switch, the file is called log.txt. |
