What is Delta Loop about?

Delta Loop is a shoot'em up arcade game, focused mainly on gameplay. It has simple core mechanics that makes it easy to learn, but hard to master. Your main goals are to stay alive and to get as many points as you can, shooting down waves of enemies while avoiding projectiles and head-on collisions.

We have tried to capture the feeling of classic arcade games, so you won't see any cutscene, nor there is any kind of "Story Mode" whatsoever. You just play through stages fighting waves of enemies until you lose all your lives. However, this doesn't mean each game you play will be the same. As your skills improve, you'll be able to progress further, face new enemies and try different weapons and items.

We've tried very hard to give every player a chance to enjoy the game. It features four different skill modes, from "Easy" to "Extreme", and each one has a separate high score category.

Check our early teaser trailer if you want to get a feel of the frantic action!

How do you play the game? What can you do?

To accomplish the previously mentioned goals, you will take control of a heavily armed spaceship that can move and shoot in any direction. It is equipped with a basic laser cannon that you can upgrade little by little, and a selection of four powerful subweapons: Heavy Bombs, Chaingun, Plasma Clouds and Mirror Beam. Each one of these has its own type of ammo, while the main laser cannon never runs out of it. Using both your primary and secondary weapons is the key to reach advanced stages and get a really high score.

Stages will cycle through a set of different scenarios, getting more difficult as you progress. Later stages will introduce new types of enemies (either entirely new or tougher variations of previous ships) and have an increased number of foes and enemy waves.

Every defeated enemy will release a certain amount of energy cores. Those can be collected and used to buy various items from a shop after you pass the stage. You can purchase ammo for your favorite subweapon, upgrades and even helper bots that can assist you greatly.

Last but not least, you can get special medals for meeting certain requirements on a single stage (f.e., by clearing the screen defeating all the remaining enemies just before the time runs out). These will give you a big score bonus and the game will reward you for collecting them with a set of unlockable extras: new designs for your ship, hints on how to get the most of the game and access to custom graphical effects.

That wall of text is boring! What exactly does the game offer?

Mainly:

  • Straight-to-the-point arcade fun. No automated sequences! No QTEs!
  • Really tight controls (keyboard+mouse or dual-analog gamepad)
  • A lot of evil things to shoot at!
  • A lot of shiny hi-tech things to collect and power up your ship!

Also:

  • Simple but colorful 2D high definition graphics with a retro feeling.
  • Powerful stereo surround sound effects.
  • Four difficulty modes, ranging from "very easy" to "extremely hard".
  • An array of different weapons and enhancements to try.
  • XBox 360 and legacy USB gamepad support.
  • Unlockable goodies that you can get by increasing your high score and collecting achievements: new playable ships, tips & tricks, special graphical filters, etc.

When will the game be released? Will it cost money?

We're aiming for a release on August 15th 2014, but it could be a week or two later, depending on how well the betatesting phase goes.

The game will be completely free (as in beer), and you will be able to download it directly from IndieDB once we release it. But, if you want to support the authors and help with future projects, you will be able to make a small donation in our main website (coming soon!)

That's all, thanks a lot for reading! We'll keep you updated on our progress and the final release in this page.
