Dary's Legend is a graphical hand-drawn, roguelike dungeon crawler game. Help Dary as he embarks on a journey full of perils, monsters, traps and treasures. The game is in alpha so expect frequent updates as we build the dungeon towards the final build. Hey guys, time for a fresh new update for DL. Version 0.5.6a, it should be live in Desura by the time you read this.

This time along with a full new floor, with new monsters and environment we are including the pet system. We had this internally working to a certain degree but it had some problems, but it finally feels like a proper feature.

Pet System

So how does it work? You can't get a pet right from the get-go, you need to do certain steps first.

1- Find and learn one of the recipes for cooking Bait.

2 - Find all ingredients necessary for the recipe. There are three different recipes for bait. They have different catch chances, which I'll talk in a bit.

3 - Find a monster you want to tame and make your pet. Fight him a bit until his HP level is below 50% (this is crucial).

4 - Equip the bait to throw at the enemy by right-clicking it on the shortcuts bar. Now throw it at the enemy, depending on the bait and it's chance of taming it may require several bait to work.

5 - When it works you'll see a message and an arrow will appear above your new pet.

Your pet will now follow you and attack enemies in sight. You can take him anywhere, even if you change floors.

Hi. Yes work is still being made. Right now most of the codebase is done, so it's just artwork being done, which is a bit behind on schedule, but it's still moving along :)

hi jax. Work is still being done on the game, although not much on the code, most of the work being done is artwork, which is a bit behind on schedule. But we are still working on that game. Of that I can assure you. The problem was that the designer has a speed bump on her schedule and things got a bit slower, since most of what's still lacking is art on the game. Regards

Hi DJ_Link,

today I have tried to reproduce this crash, but without success. The last time the game crashed, I had played for one or two hours. After quitting the game with the "Save & Exit" option the game freezes. Means that I can see the mainmenue but nothing happens if I tried to click "Exit". Except the process was only quitting by the taskmanager.

Sorry, that I can't tell you more specific but I will keep an eye on this phenomenon and answer here if I find something new out.

Hi bjkraemer.
Thanks for letting me know. Yes, it appears the crash is kind of random. Might have something to do with some component in the game getting corrupted after a long time playing. I have to track this down, it's just being hard to reproduce :P
Anyaway a new update should be up in a few days so two things might happen, it can be more stable or less stable on that problem. Less stable has the advantage, it will probably mean we can catch the pattern to make it crash sooner :)
