Contagion isn't your average Zombie Shooter but instead takes a more realistic and different approach to the popular genre with unique characters, environments, weapons, items, and a built in system that makes every round completely unpredictable with resources, objectives, and paths ever changing. From the creator of Zombie Panic: Source Brian "Tatsur0" Comer we introduce it's spiritual successor.

Post news Report RSS Contagion - Full Release out now!

Contagion has removed it's training wheels and ditched the safety of "Early Access" and has pushed out a large update hidden away for Full Release!

Posted by on

We're excited to announce that Contagion is no longer in Beta or "Early Access" anymore but now a Newly Released Full Game! We're very excited but of course nervous though the reception has been very positive and we hope to keep it so as we are working on releasing quite a bit throughout the week and the Contagion SDK this Sunday for our modding community! We'd also like to share (we know the animation is a bit off but this has more to do with the fact that we've finally bridged the gap between Non-Valve Games and SFM) our Cinematic SFM Release Trailer. We hope you enjoy! For those who are/were big in the modding scene the Music is done by our very own Ed Harrison (NeoTokyo)!

Release being the big deal that it is we decided to go big with a competition that would launch with the release of Contagion! We've done all kinds of challenges/competitions and they tend to rarely connect with enough users so we wanted to do something that pretty much everyone could partake in with a fairly equal shot at winning. We're currently holding an Official Contagion - Let's Play Competition with prizes exceeding $12,500 USD. All you need is a copy of Contagion and a Youtube account. Check out this instructional video for more information and/or visit Contagion-game

We started so small so long ago, then came ModDB and things picked up, ZPS grew into a very popular mod but couldn't have happened without Twilight and Rhone from ZP1, and now we've got Contagion on IndieDB which took 2nd place after Starbound. We've got a great community and a great place we all call home whether it be ModDB/IndieDB/SlideDB. Want to thank everyone here for those that showed their support and made this possible. To some it's not a big deal but for us our first Fully Released Indie title means a great deal. Thank you!

As do I. Great times during testing and after. Human bridges/ladders, goldsrc brilliance, and a great deal of nostalgia.

It doesn't feel like a "full release" to me, there's still much to do...
Characters animations looks silly for example.
Maybe you should have extend the beta.
PS Medve: now there's two of it

Contagion may be Full Released but we have our budget set aside to continue working on the game for a good long time while including our Free DLC (New characters, weapons, maps, and game-modes). This may or may not help - Steamcommunity.com

Animations are limited by the current system but we're working on a more advanced layer system for the 1000+ Player/AI Survivor and Zombie animations that we will continue to add in with our updates like the SDK for our modders this Sunday. We couldn't hide behind "Early Access" forever and are use to ppl ignoring the AAA bugs and forgetting we don't have their numbers or budget. Still I understand your view point and promise you won't feel that way for long. We're quite dedicated.

We understand that to and will do our best to be patient, explain, and leave it to them to understand or not. Can't force ppl to understand.

There needs to be a survival mode playable on all maps, where survivors just try to hold out as long as possible.

I have a worse computer than you, and yet I run it fine. It just takes some tinkering to get the game to maximum performance.

I almost reach the minimum requirements. Playing on a laptop, the only times I have trouble are on Barlow Square :(

We are always optimizing and hope we can help you in the future that will no longer be the case. We've done so much to allow a so much more than was originally locked and optimized it so that systems that don't meet requirements can still run it and some at higher settings than expected. I can't promise anything other than we will do our best to further improve all things Contagion :)

Always working to boost performance, optimizing the game, and including more options allowing users to play with it to find their sweet spot.

It is a great game, but it just doesn't feel like it got out of early acess, if compared to DayZ for example, which is still in it's early alpha stages and still provides a very satisfactory feel.

But Contagion is going great so far, so I wish you good luck with the budget!

And just a question. Will you ever add a customizable character? Or will it remain in selectable ones? I am just asking as it seems perhaps easier to spend a bit more time on making different variations for male and female characters, human or zombie, to make a very randomized hordes or make the survivors a bit more individual.

And will there ever be a larger city map to survive on? Would be great because Contagion is realistic compared to most zombie games, like L4D, but lacks the size and exploration.
